I think what really matters here is the strategy the animals would use to fight. Silverback gorillas are portrayed as somewhat pacifist. The bear would win based on aggression alone. If the gorilla were smart and aggressive, though, it could probably get on the bear's back and choke it to death.

I'm not an expert, but i think that a female bear protecting her babys is even more dangerous than a male bear. Considering all facts, I'd bet on a gorilla. Should be more intelligent than a bear and can use all 4 limbs(beside jaws ofcourse)

A rumor I heard was that a male gorilla (maybe at a German zoo??) was able to pull itself out of its 14'+ tall enclosure because it was able to stick a single finger into a crack in the wall. 1-finger pull-up by a 4-500 pound creature is terrifying. :nuts:

Primate musculature =/= to Grizzly musculature. I think the two animals would be fairly similar in strength, (if you could hypothetically put them on a bench :momaru: ) but the weight difference would certainly be a factor.

It's my thread, I'll make a couple of caveats:

• Stock made a good point: we'll assume both fighters are motivated to fuck each other up, but not necessarily charge head-first into one another (I see bear winning this scenario every time). They're both "engaged"
• There are stones/wood in the enclosure, it is supposed to simulate a natural environment. = Clubs for gorilla's opposable thumbs, a check against bear paws. Also a check against gorilla mobility, as I see it moving a lot more than a bear, but the gorilla may slip or lose footing- neutral addition?
• Let's add a pond. 8' at its deepest. Good for drownings. After watching Cryo's vid, I can see bears love to play in water

that can be good thing. I vaguely remember a news story in which a tamed bear (not sure if a grizzly) crushed his owner to death while they were "playing".
Bear tought "oh lets cuddle" and layed on the owner for a couple of minutes. So yeah, a 1000lbs grizzly accidentally tripping and falling on his opponent can certainly end a fight.
Also, wiki says grizzlys can reach up to 35mph. That is insane considering their weight. A grizzly clawed face slap at 35mph sounds deadly to me:Owned:

That is really fast. The WR for 100m is held by Usain Bolt: 9.58 seconds. Average sped is "only" 23.35 mph.

Grizzly smash plus mad speed = bad news.

I'm going with the Grizzly Bear on this one. From my understanding Grizzlys are far more ferocious than Gorillas and would not back down in a fight. A Grizzly can kill a moose with one swipe of it's paw, the gorilla would bleed out within 10 minutes.
