What Happened to OTN?

Well guys, unless you neglect stickied threads with important info on site updates (and I'm sure some of you do... :rofl: ), you would have been expecting a software upgrade sometime in the next week or so. I've put in MAD hours this past week and this weekend and I'm very Happy to announce that (I think) it's ready for you guys

I have just a few things to tell you about it.

First of all, if you see any problems with the site or any functions of the site, please drop me a PM! I tested it in Mozilla Firefox, Netscape 7.1, and IE 6.026.

Private Messages: These were all brough over, even the ones you thought you deleted on the old site remained in the database, so they were brought over. At least you didn't lose any

. To update the Private Message count in the navigation bar, try deleting, moving, sending, or receiving a PM.

The Video Section: This is totally new, totally redone. I have some subtle changes to make in the coming days (maybe weeks) to this part of the site. It's not properly reporting filesizes and left click won't work on some of the files, so as many of you would do anyhow, right click -> save as. I'll have these fixed as soon as I figure out the problems, and that shouldn't take long I hope.

The Gallery Software: This is the one thing I was really worried about on the old site, and I think it was unanimous to scrap the gallery if need be. Since everything is moved over now I will try and re-integrate the gallery, but I make no promises. If I need to I will drop it and either re-install so it integrates properly, or purchase different software to handle the new albums. I think this will take me a few days to determine, so don't expect anything TOO quickly

User Profile: You are going to need to go into your user control panel and update your information. We have some new fields for you to fill out like birthdate, real name, bike, etc. You will probably also want to fill in your proper timezone and any other preferences you have (like invisible mode, the editor type, etc).

I would really like you guys to update your real name, as we can have this display under your avatars in the actual threads. I'll get that set up in a few days I think.

I'm sure there are some questions you guys will have, and I may want to expand on this post, so go ahead and ask, and keep checking back here

This is really neat, this is a site a visit almost every day. So it's great to have such a cool set up.

i like it. i have to sign in every time i get here but i have no problem with that.

is there no more image uploader or can i just not find it?

Thanks a bunch Bill! for putting so much time/effort into this site!

i enjoy the new customizable features... but the forums are harder on the eyes, not as easy to follow. Am I the only one who liked how it was before? Overall the change is positive, I'll get used to the new forums.

Little Android Man: This is just a cookies problem, if you're using internet explorer, follow these instructions, Go to:

Tools > Internet Options

Click the Privacy Tab at the top of the Internet Options window.

Click the edit button near the bottom right of the Internet Options window.

type in http://www.observedtrials.net and click "Allow". You may also want to add http://www.observedtrials.net/vb to the allow list.

To people not satisfied with the new look: I knew this would be a concern at first because on every forum I've ever been a member of, when they changed the look or layout, I was always dissatisfied at first. No one likes change, but it always just takes a few days of browsing the site to get used to it, and I think you'll find that you get it figured out no problem very shortly.

If anyone has any suggestions on the look, post em here or (preferrably) in the Forum Help & Suggestions forum.

Cool, sounds like a much better system. Is this VBulliten like discussed? Or is it completely different? Anyway, other than the boxes continuing down a long way even with a short post, I love it! Thanks so much for all the hard work Bill.

Yep, this is vBulletin.

Update: I am toying with the sql tables for the album and things are looking up. I can get all of the pictures in no problem, and the standard galleries (Miscellaneous UCI Bikes, Koxx, Echo, etc) work. I am having some problems with getting the User's galleries to show up, though mine are working right for some reason :? I'll keep playing with them until I either get it right, or see no other possible way to get it working, and we'll go from there. Anyone here know MySQL well? PM me

What about the Image Uploader? Or is that part of the Album...Sorry if you've already said it somewhere

Nope, the image uploader is still fully functional, and a completely seperate part of the site.

You should now be able to attach images in your post though, so it may eventually fade away. If you're having problems attaching images, let me know.
