I wonder if making a soft steel hangers would work. If it would bend easier than the alum frame the frame would be prottected but you can easily bend the hanger in place. Would be interesting to try. Any opinions on this?

You should just get a hard steel hanger made and use breakaway hanger bolts. That would definitely be my preferred method :).

So then if both methods would work, why is this not been done? I guess its more profitable to have people buy hangers at $7 a pop...

I'll use free hangers and not break them.

The Mk 5 zebdis have steel hangers and theyre a ton better than the older Al alloy ones; almost a year on one hanger before I gapped to derailer- not derailleur.

It bends back very well, you can mangle it numerous times before it finally breaks. It is also more robust to start with so you dont have to f' with it all the time.

If you can make some of soft steel do it.
