Still in the same old place. Working for a chillaf company, we distribute ski gear and bbqs and party speakers. Almost finished my van proj so i can finally bum around in luxury and take significant time off work to bike/climb/ski/hike. wrecking my knee might have put a spanner in that sort of thing, but just seeing where it goes for the moment and getting fat in the meantime, no rush.

How about you man?

mountain biking thread is the new off topic bullshit thread.
Oh that's pretty cool, what a combo! Great to hear about the vanlyf project too, sounds dreamy as.

I'm doing good, am mostly just a [bike]dad these days. Two kids under 4, showing both of them the world via two wheels is the majority of my riding... they love it! Commuter bike has Topeak rear rack seat + Thule front seat setup + kids adds ~30kg (66lb for non-metric) and makes hills fun. For those interested, running a 36t x 11-42 cassette, 10sp.

Can't remember when I last posted life/non-trials update, but I worked for 9 great years at the Aus office of a rather large Japan-based bicycle component manufacturer. Moved upstate and now working at the distro of brands like Norco/Merida/BMC/FSA/MET/Endura/Fizik/Assos/many more.

*Trials-related: did compete in '22 Trials National Champs for the first time in 5 years... green and gold in Masters! Rode a few bikes in the years since, but ended up back on the rig in my avatar haha - Atomz Quark 2. Bit heavy, low bb by today's standards, but solid and still feels so familiar!

It is a good combo isn't it? Smith Optics, K2, Line, Ride, Full Tilt, G3, BCA, Traeger, Soundboks. Shame I don't fit Smith helmets or glasses haha. The rep was horrified when I went and bought a POC Kortal and some Julbo sunnies.

All I've got left to do on the van is some of the electrics (solar panels, batteries, associated trickery) and then finish up the shower pan. But she's pretty comfy already, all custom built so I can fit fit all my shit in there, not have to fold the bed up, have a big couch etc. Prebuilt vans suck, no storage, shit beds, shit couches, shit insulation.

Sick! Congrats man. One of my mates rides around with both his kids on the bike but he's got them both on the back of one of those Surly cargo bikes with the super long rear end haha. looks hilarious with all three of them on there.

Good timing, Norcos don't tend to snap in half near as much as they used to.

It still looks modern to me  Nice work on the result. I'm not really surprised though!

My son's gotten into MTB and I can't keep up on my 26" street trials bike so i finally got a modern bike to build up with him. Just waiting for spokes to build the wheels. I finally got tired of waiting for the right Ibis Mojo3 to come up. I think these are pretty similar.

Andy - I went with Deore 10 spd without much research. There's a lot of choice in 9 spd so that's a good choice too. 11 and 12 are just stoopid expensive.

ahhahahahhaha

fekkin dropper post.. Don't do it !!! keep it like a real bike. Dropper post full gays,

kind of like riding a real trials bike from the year 2002 compared to riding a pogo hobo bike from today. Aint the same thing. Dropper puts you in the "poppers and paint sniffing" category :whistle:o_O

I understand why all the lazy bikers out there use dropper posts, but the trails I ride around here are a climb then a descent, then repeat. I want this bike to be light-ish and simple so no dropper. It's really appalling all the doodads people have on their handlebars these days. I just want it like my trials bike; 2 brake levers and 2 grips. Done.

if only more ppl lived this way. Adding the dropper makes my bicycle a different thing, something i dont think it should be.

My favorite part of this build is the saddle. I kinda went cheap on a lot of parts bc I had too, but I splurged on the saddle. WTB Volt medium with titanium rails, $168 and worth every penny.

I've done it again! Since I got my son the Santa Cruz 5010 we've been MTBing quite a lot and I'd have to say he's definitely hooked! Turns out he's a heck of a climber. The Ibis Mojo 3 that I've been looking for finally showed up on Pinkbike so i just had to jump on it. My plan was to co opt the 5010 if my son didn't use it, but that's not gonna happen looks like, so I got me an Ibis!
