rotors are much cheaper on bikes. i laughed when THE came out with disk gaurds for dh bikes and people that used them just crashed on them and bent their rotors anyway. if you slam your rotor you can get it back into true from a pretty nasty bend if you do it right.
i saw one on pinkbike for bikes a while back. looked like shite but i suppose it would work in protecting your disc. it would also add a pound or two to ur bike :ugh:

Rotors get hot on other bikes, so like Ed said, just there to keep people from landing directly on the rotor. I've seen a scar/burn, trust me. Also maybe to keep the rotor clean? who knows...
i crashed on my dh bike and i had a burn mark on my shoulder blade that perfectly matched a hayes rotor pattern... it sucked. i know a guy who lost the tip of his finger in a crash cus his hand shot into the rotor. that being said. the burn scar was burly looking and the missing finger makes for a great story. hence rotor gaurds suck.
yeah i suppose those moto rotors can get hot, like the 24 hour of le mans, at night the car rotors burn red hot..same with Need For Speed:Underground
