How to "wedge" video

I made a "how to wedge" video to help introduce this move to intermediate riders. A "wedge" is a move where you are balanced on both wheels on top of 2 obstacles that are more than wheelbase apart. (Wheelbase is the distance from the center of the front hub to rear hub).

This move is recommended for riders who have a pretty good understanding of basics like hopping, coordinating pedal strokes with brake use, and back wheel hops.

I hope it helps some riders out there who trying to learn this move.

Thanks for the vid, I have been starting to work on this move. Are you planning on making a vid for outside wedges ?

Outside wedge (wodge) is quite similar to wheelswap?

Awesome video, I've not found anything around me to practice this on.

You wheel seems to slip after every move, is this really good balance or really bad brakes?

Good observation!

Well, I tried to keep the video consistent since it was filmed on a few different days. Since the first day I had quiet brakes, I thought the vid should continue to have quiet brakes. So in some of the examples that you see on the curb, I actually use NO rear brake when I land. So it was actually a brakeless landing.

I might try to make a video for outside wedges (where the obstacle is stuck between the tires right?).

Or perhaps someone else on otn can do one? We'll see, it is a good idea to do a vid on outside wedges as well.

Yes, I see them in alot of videos but it happens so fast its hard to see the motion needed. A step by step video would come in handy.

If I can chip in: I'd recommend getting fairly good at resting your front wheel against an object before spending lots of time on wedges (mmm).

You can use up a lot of energy getting into the sweet spot to bust a wedge, so aim to get your balance without using too many hops, but moreso on using your body and handlebars.

^^^^^ True. Learning to balance with your wheel up against a wall is critical.

Overall though, this is a brilliant video. It's quite clever to show common mistakes and what they look like when you do them. Well done!

As boots said, wedges are one of those moves that can really take your natural riding to the next level and help at competitions. The other key moves are inside wedges (wodges?) and static hooks.

Any tips on static hook's ? I want to start to learn them but have no clue where to start.
