kid in ft collins to aran cook:
kid: "so is that a fixed gear?"
aran: "yea"

*aran quickly ratchets his cranks backwards 3 revolutions and then pedal kicks into a sidehop preload and goes up a huge wall

kid: "cool"

I could picture that happening. The kid probably told all his friends about the seatless fixed gear with the biggest bars he's ever seen on a fixie in his life.

i always get the "wheres the seat?"(makes me facepalm every time). there is no spot for a freakin seat post on a mod bike!
another is " Is that a motorcycle tire?"
"is that a fixxie"
"Where is the freewheel?"
"what kind of brakes are those?"
that always leads to "They make hydraulic rim brakes?" well, yeah, look!

Took my bike to a local flea market the other day, met up with a buddy who I haven't seen in years. He let me ride my bike all over his busted ass truck. Lotta people stopped to watch, it was pretty cool. Eventually some kid comes up to me and says:

"Can you do that on my bike?"
Me: "Umm, I dunno, let's see your bike"
"One sec I'll go get it"

He comes back 5 minutes later with a Schwinn. It has a set of old Fox forks on it. First thing he says when he gets back:

"My bike is worth about $1200, what about yours?"
Me: "If your bike is worth $1200, I could trade mine for a house..."
"Oh. So can you ride my bike?"
Looked at his brakes... Vee's with broken ass cables, looks like they're ready to snap.
Me: "No thanks"

About 10 minutes later, this kid is still standing around watching. I see a 5 year old ride by on a girls Barbie bike, and out of stupidity turn to a buddy and say I want that bike, and I'd defff trade mine for it. THE KID GOES AND KNOCKS THE FIVE YEAR OLD DOWN AND STEALS HER BIKE. Brings it to me and says, okay, trade. I told him I was joking and to give the girl her bike back.... WTF is wrong with people, this kid was like 16 or 17, you'd think he'd have more common sense.

I've had some guy come up to me while I was not just riding on some rocks, but actually on the rock and ask," Have you ever tried riding trials?"

"why the bouncy tires" or "your tires are flat"

the older generation mostly grannys "you need to oil your brakes"

Guy: Can you do a backflip?
Me: Nah
Guy: Well you suck.
Guy: Do a wheelie then?
me: Ride off not looking back.

I've also had a hobo say he was going to call the cops on me, I was just riding down the street. I wasn't even riding on anything.
I said, ok, get your phone out and call then. He said he didn't have one, then he asked for money for the pay phone so he could call. I laughed and rode off. Craziest thing that ever happened to me on a bike.

I've had people tell me to get off rocks and when I asked why they said I might tear them up.

These past months, people somehow knew it was a trials bike before I even told them.

I find it interesting how hobos in Downtown actually understand the concept of bike trials more than normal people.

True story. Then some ghetto mom started yelling at her 5 y/o kid and dog for running down the street at 10:30. Shit looked like it was going to get crazy.
