Broken Handlebars!

Quick question- Have any of you broken or cracked any handlebars? I snapped a set of Zhi bars and I just cracked a set of Echo bars that I've had for a year. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? I ride a mod just in case anyone asks. Thanks!

handlebars break, all you can really do is ride smoother and listen for any creaking.
im not sure if you can over tighten aluminium bars unless youre trying to

You can also have a problem if you have somehow gouged the bars during installation. Where are they breaking?

I have broken a Monty stem on a mod bike. It didn't really give me any notice, just snapped. I have some Zoo bars I'm currently using and they've held up for a long time.

You've entered into an abusive, repetitive sport. You can keep an ear out and listen of creaks and why not. When aluminum is ready to snap, crack it'll just happen.I'd go with DH bars,it's worth a shot, but they'll eventually break as well..

Good luck..

thanks for all the input, I think I may go with DH bars. I did however see a set of try-all carbon bars on here for 50 bucks, is that worth a try?

are you over tightening your stem? if you are really cranking down on the bolts and your bars are breaking right at the stem that could maybe be an issue

I would just like to add that Zhi bars are terrible. They broke after 8 months for me and the only other set of bars I ever broke were Easton aluminum bars after 3 years. You may have just had bad luck with the bars you've purchased. I've also never heard creaking from handlebars before they broke. A good rule of thumb is to replace your bars (among other things) every year if you are riding regularly (with the exception of high quality bars like Easton carbon bars as Stock mentioned above).

My zhi bars lasted 3 weeks.

Your better of running a decent branded bar. I highly recommend the trial tech bars
