Useful post Andy....why don't you come out and compete for once?

Pitch ideas to me and we will go from there...I would need help with that since I ride traditional comp style trials.

I don't know how this would work but it sounds like fun, I'd be interested in trying sometime.

Only alternative trials competition I was in was 2003/4/5 in Colorado- it was a bike shop that built a bunch of obstacles and they had everyone come to ride...we each had separate times to ride, "runs" you could call it, and we could move the obstacles around as well- the winners were best tricks and whoever got the crowd the most pumped up...also there was an incredible MC (who also owned the bike shop) which, like demos, makes a huge difference.

This worked because there were at least 10 local dedicated riders, tons of spectators, a good shop and a good community. I was a dedicated trials rider at the time, didn't even ride urban, but it was one of the best competitions I've ever been in. The red bull / rad fest sessions that have been popping up are like that on steroids with dozens and dozens of riders...but england has the community to support that... I'm not sure if southern california does? Perhaps piggybacking on a large (sea otter?) event, but I don't know if there are enough people to make it interesting...the more people the more everyone pushes each other and the more the crowd gets into it.

Matt,
The reason I asked is because it might be me and you for all I have heard....I would rather not bother if its fewer than 10 people total.

Due to the impending weather and lack of rider cooperation we will be postponing Round 2 of the California State series. As soon as the new date is available it will be published here. Thanks for your patience.

Scott you cant do this. Canceling an event last minute will cause major distrust and no one will even consider showing up. And last time I checked Terry and I were in charge of the trials events in fontana. From here on out we again will be. Events are held for any one to be able attend and enjoy, no matter how many you think will show up. You cant just do what ever you want when ever you feel like it! Running an event can be hard, especially if you feel there may be a small turn out, but you have a responsibility to those people make it happen. I may not be able to ride as I once was able to, but my passion for this sport is still strong. I will continue to do what needs to be done to help this sport succeed!

I'll post up the schedule as soon as I get the dates. I'm trying to get sponsors to donate prizes for single event and an over all series winner. so far I have Red Bull and Power Bar. Hopefully more to come. I want to give everyone something for all the blood sweat and tears (mostly blood) you all shed for our sport!

Sponsors + prizes are nice...try some online retailers of trials bikes maybe something can happen there...

on line trials retailers have never been a reliable source Andy. in the past they have fell through. They are a small part of a large world. Ideally events for trials would have trials specific prizes, but being the small fish anything is better than nothing. I have also been to an event like you talked about. I believe it was in 2001. It was the first Red Bull bike battle. It was exactly what you described. What is required of an event like this is #1 a large crowd. #2 a killer MC. Very hard to come by. I think this would be a great step for trials, but it takes a ton of coordination to make something like this happen. A simple trials comp is a lot less complicated. Our sport has no limits to where it can go, the more people that are willing to help, there is nothing it can't accomplish!

Yeah would be great. Years ago I hosted a few competitions in colorado and had good support via online retailers through stickers, shirts and parts- usually tires/handlebars... stickers/t-shirts are nice low cost / high exposure gifts that can be given to everyone who enters.
