Travis, you should definitely compete. Just show up Saturday morning to register and then compete that day..

As for other rides this week see the post concerning the Friday ride
http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/f17/friday-evening-ride-before-bar-h-silver-lake-20034/

Also, there will be a few of us riding at Rockledge Park on lake Grapevine on either Tuesday or Wednesday night. We will post when we find out what night.

rides

Yeah I met the husband/wife couple that were up there on saturday working the course and they were trying to talk me into the sport class, but I dont think I can handle sport my first time out. thats why I want to get some pointers and advise this week. I have been to rocklege a few times. I even took a launch ramp out there and was destroying a perfectly good bmx bike one summer launching off the cliffs till the rangers came by. They didn't care for it much. I would love to get some riding in and some pointers this week so I will keep my eyes open on here and pm me or something when you know when and where.

sport or beginner

See thats my dilemma. I dont wanna compete against a bunch of 12y/o but I can't even get up and balance on the back tire yet. What to do?

hard choice. last bar-h was my first and only comp, i think most people 5-ed everytime in sport except a few. if you enjoy beating kids, do beg.! hehe, sport is tough though, atleast last year it was, if you cant balance on your back wheel yet, i would suggest doing beg., there maybe one trials rider coming from college station that will be doing beg. as well.

5-ed

so what is 5-ed? does that mean that they dabbed too many times or not at all? I was looking at the results and I assumed it meant they dabbed but watching the video clips they didn't appear to dab at all. please help me out so I can understand all of this.

dabs

So I'm looking at the results from the bar h last year and as far as I can see only 6 guys made it through without 5's on every obstacle? Was the course that hard? Or are there jsut that many newbies in the sport class? I guess I am gonna ride sport how many guys are gonna ride sport with me?

Look at the sections when U get there and decide. You should ride sport for a better idea of what trials is about, so the next comp you'll do good in sport. Google NATS trials rules to get some idea of the scoring system and get familiar with what you cant do...

You're scored on how many times you make "mistakes" and 5 points is the maximum amount of points you can get in a section. You wanna "clean a section" by not getting any points agaiinst you.

I only hope the judges know the rules.........

dabs

I'm pretty familiar with how trials works. I've seen a bunch of dirt-bike trials stuff. Just trying to figure out where I should try to be this saturday before I get out there. I can get up onto the hood of the car. clear 4 pallets pretty well. I can bunny hop pretty well. Um...there was a cow trough (i think) that was upside down I had no trouble with that and the teeter totter ate my lunch about 5 times but then I got it down pretty good. So sport calss and hope for the best huh?

Pre riding sectons in bike trials is taboo dude!
If you can do all of that in a comp you better ride sport!

B4 you bitch.... 99% of the people showing up at the comp. will never pre ride the sections, you have a definite advantage by practicing the obstacles 5-6 times. Pre riding sections used to get you a 100 points at previous comps.

Does anyone know what I mean.

I remember Buddy used to walk thru the sections with his bike in hand, seeing where it would/wouldn't fit

I have been over the rules with the judges, and I am bringing copies to post at the event. I asked Stan about the "pre-ride" issue and he told me that until the line is taped it is just a group of obsticales. Since the actual line hasn't been laid out, knowing exactly what will or will not be part of the lines will have to wait until I get there on Friday.

I think that trying to stop people from riding in an open area is at best problematic. I don't own the the land. The teeter-toter has been there for a while, and some of the other parts have as well. We haven't put the finishing touches yet, just did prep work except for the epert/pro lines which are finished.

can o worms

holy can o worms batman! I have never ridden trails and was just playing around on the pallets and cars and stuff that was out there. I was far from "riding any lines" just playing on some of the stuff out there. Trust me I am a LOOOONNG way from winning, so if you must banish me please let me know in advance so I don't drive up there for nothing. Oh and if pre-riding was against the rules when I showed intrest in riding the comp I wish some of the people out there woulda told me pre-riding is taboo.

Pre-riding is taboo, but you didn't pre-ride. You did play on some of the pieces, but in order to pre-ride you would have to follow the course as it is laid out. No one would banish you for playing around on stuff. At least I don't think they would? I have no intention of gettting excited about some one who wants to get involved with trials, and I don't think any one else would.
