hey i have a Hot S right now... but in the past 3 weeks its flatted twice. its just started recently and ive heard that they pinch easily. i have a DX32 on my stock bike and was wondering shich tire is the best. something that wont pinch, can take like a mile and a half to get to where your ridin and wont slow me down, and is preferrably light?

any suggestions?

thanks

i like the michelin el gato (i think, the red one) for pure trials or a kujo dh 2.35 for street trials

I think the el gato's and kujo's are IRC, just for future reference. :bigthumb:

Ritchey Moto-vader 2.6, still the best tyre ive used.

Also check out BMF Chris' signature.

hmm...*cough* maxxis tires suck *cough*
If you're going to run a tire that big and heavy go michelin dh 24.1. It wears slower and has better sidewalls for pinchflatters.

cole is just jealous I get to ride while he is at work, don't listen to him.

IRC mythos are really awesome for the rear, check them out.

michelins r soo expensive!!! and yes they do pinch easily! maxxis hansventure is quite good, i use it on the front. the panaracer xc is another super grippy low rolling resistance tire. on the back i hav a irc kujo dh 2.35 -- which gets me to wherever for urban trials. its lasted me 2 seasons.
the schwalbe al mighty are super super tacky (sticky), but anything sticky wears pretty quick, especially if you need to ride to your destination...

tioga dh 2.3. still the best tire after years of people deciding to try and use other CRAP. everybody comes back to the tioga though.

no don't worry I can patch it up its just that after you put a fresh tube in till you get around to patching the tire, and it flats, then you put the patched one in and IT FLATS. it just gets really annoying! i have a friend that has a tioga DH, either that or ill probably get a new High Roller. they seem to work for everyone else

I used to use the IRC El Gato's during Libor's glory days. it pinch flatted like crazy! i'm using a tioga factory dh 2.3 in the rear and panaraxer DH 2.3 in the front. i relaly like the panaracer firedh pro.

2.5 high roller is great.. but it's like straping a medium sized midget to your rear chain stays...heavy.. I run a hot s in the back now with a intense downhill tube...holding up pretty well... the red looks like my bike is on the rag though...looking for an alternative.

well if you are all pinch flatting your tyres it's because you all suck at riding and can't ride smooth!
i personally think the try all tyre is one of the best tyres out there and no it hasn't been flatted in 8 months, keep in mind i haven't been riding most of that time (4 months off). who cares about getting flats, not me because it never happens. just get a michelin, maxxis or tryall because they are all decent for trials and have good and bad points. fuck, hasn't there been about 10 posts already on this subject!!!

ive riden WTB tires before... because i was too cheap to get new tires. there not great they have next to no grip but the hold up.

At the moment i'm running a Continental vertical pro-tection, but i'll be changing to a Hot S soon methinks.
On the back i have a Comp 24, I'll be buying another Maxxis Minion 2.5 when it wears out though.
The only fault i can give to the Maxxis's are their wear rate, but thats the pay off for a super grippy tyre.

Sharpie you asshat, you weigh about 3 1/2 kg's, you arent heavy enough to pinch a tyre, even if you were riding on razors at 5 psi.

i had the velo raptors with the kevlar bead. they were great for getting to the destination... but were total crap for actually riding, so don't do what i did and try to save money by riding your old XC tires on your trials bike... crappy idea. the hot S is plenty grippy. i love the grip, i just don't like spending what daylight i have fixin flats!

But you got to love them for their grip

i also heard taht peopel say tioga dh 2.3 s flat really easily but i havent had a flat in a months. im not running a dh tube either its just a regualar one.

also, im not running high tire pressure or anything. i bottom out the rim all the time. but i dont really like the tire it and im thinking of getting a hot s. does anyone know what they feel like, if there bouncy or sticky and how much they are CAD??

DangerousDave
11-20-2004, 07:46 PM
Well I haven't pinched the try all yet but the sidewalls are weak.

You have to run higher pressure to keep the tire from bottoming out. And when you compress the sidewalls they have a tendency to throw you off balance when they rebound.

the wtb (dh sidewall) weirwolf is an acceptable trials tire.

i liked the maxxis tires the best. very "lively", and also very grippy.

the michelin 24.1 comp is also very good.

Specialized Roller RS.
They have thick sidewalls, great tread pattern and grippy compound, kevlar bead to keep the weight down, come in lots of sizes (2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7). They retail for less than $50 cnd, which is half the price of a Maxxis or Michelin. Great tire, I had one. The sizes are the real deal though. A 2.6 is a true 2.6, it is huge. It did not fit my levelboss frame without me cutting the sideknobs a lot, almost to the casing. The 2.3 weighs 990 grams, the 2.4 is 1025 grams. Both of these are about the same size as a 2.5 michelin comp 24. The 2.6 won't fit in most frames without a lot of sideknob trimming.

hello?
11-21-2004, 10:08 PM
still seems kinda heavy but i guess you gotta sacrafice something for a good tire. what is the site for these tires?

ya, the weirwolf was what i was looking at trying out. i want something in a 2.3 size though so i would have to go with the FR version as opposed to the DH version which is 2.5.

also does anyone know if the WTB motoraptor would make an ok front tire? if nobody knows, i might try it anyway just for the review value of the experience.

I'm gonna try the Weirwolf too. I've used a 2.5 dh version for two years on my fr hardtail and my bighit (same 20mm axle and 8" disc so I can swap easily). I gotta say the inner peace sidewalls are awesome. With the one tire, I strapped it on 2 years ago and haven't taken it off yet, seriously. Not a single flat.

But it's been on the front - the rental bikes at Whistler ran them front and rear a couple years ago, I didn't like it too much on the rear for DH, but up front the bite is great. Use included DH at the local ski hill and general freeride including xc. Oh and it wore down pretty quickly on a bike vacation I took to Moab.

The treads are worn down a bit, but I'm gonna try the tire on the rear of my trials bike. I've currently got a Rokko 2.4 back there, no flats but the rubber sucks, I mean really sucks.

Maxxis high roler 42a .

Try putting talcompowder in ur tyre, as this lets the tube slide arround a bit more and give that little less chance to pinch.

WTB Weirwolf 2.1 dna single ply (front) (very nice tire, and it's only 600g)

These are my personal favorites at least.

Maxxis Swampthing 2.35 40a front and rear. I love having a light bike and having a rear tire that is relatively light helps alot. It is a fairly narrow tire but to be honest, I noticed no difference in grip between that and my 2.5 minion and comp24.1. So as long as I cant tell a difference, I will go as light as possible.
