woooo... ok, just to make this post legal. how do i do pedal ups? i'm having trouble getting those down.
I learned to do them by coasting slowly toward the obstacle, give a pedal stroke with your non-choco foot to get the front wheel up and then kick hard with your choco foot and jump and push the bars up all at the same time.

Tip: throw your hips into it. Wooohoo 3rd post
The word I use to help me is "throw", as in throw the bars forward, stretch your arms out and try to touch your ass on the rear tyre.
Impreza16 described it really well.

get a rhythm going, that helps alot. its mostly about timing and when you start your pedal rotation. At first go to both wheels, and then try to back wheel

Yeah, most of the height you will get is off of tucking your legs up. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't consistently getting 2' on a pedal up, and found out that I was hardly lifting the bike at all. Lifting the bike up all the way, with your nuts over the brakes and kissing the stem or top tube will get you up 3' even if your jump sucks.
Chocolate foot is your good foot forwards. If you don't know which one is your chocolate foot or you don't have one, don't learn it that way, it's a curse!

well he does but i want a few opinions on what i should do.
if you have a mountain bike just put the seat down as far as you can and practice balance things such as track stands (standing there w/o moving). the best learn this is to get on a slight slope, face up the hill and put your best foot forward and turn the handlebars to about45 degrees in the opposite direction of your forward foot, ie if your right foot is forward turn the bars to the left, and practice rocking back and forth with out using your brakes, use only pressure from your forward foot to keep you in place. balance is the most important part of tirals and the best place to start, after you get this down fairly well you can practice riding up on objects, tlak to you bf on how best to do that as its fairly involved and hard to type all that...
well he does but i want a few opinions on what i should do.
I didn't mean to be mean when i said that.
Well I'm probably not the best one to give advice when it comes to Trials, but i will tell you this... Trackstanding, Pivots, and bunny hops... are pretty much the most imprtant when starting. That's what i've been told. So that's what i try to do, I'll try a few other things as well. But i practice those things.
I'm only a beginner but take the advice of these guys they know what they're talking about and they're also out there DOING it.
