Also, there are newer high end bike this year, and I've ridden them both, the stock, and the mod. They're making moves in the right direction to me...geometry wise anyhow. I'll find pics of the new mod soon if anyones interested

why did that company go down the shitter again?

why did that company go down the shitter again?Go down the shitter? I know they've not been on the forefront, but I'm not sure about going down the shitter. Monty bikes have always stayed true to their own philosophy, and not really followed the trends of the sport. In my opinion, they are the first name I think of when someone mentions a "Trails" bike. They may not be my favorite, but I've always looked at them as being nice, just not AS nice as some of the others. Without Monty, there would probably be no biketrials as we know it. The bikes they make might have a few problems here and there, but I think they're still respected by those who've been around long enough to remember what it was like before real trials bikes were available to the average rider.

Thanks, I've reviewed your posts and I don't think we need idiocy of this magnitude on the site. Bye Bye.

i have nothing against their mods, even though i'd take an echo frame given the choice. i havn't tried any of the stocks newer than 2003 but i didn't like them - blech.

the newer geometries seem on-to-it though, i'd like to have a little play. kinda feel sorry for them over here - echo came along and BAM, noone has montys anymore

andrew,
Why do you not have a bike right now? Did you sell yours. You had one when you came to ride with Mike, right? Or were you borrowing someone elses?

Why is that? Because I'm asking him about his bike? I'm a bit confused on this issue, he came to ride Baltimore and he had a bike, I think I've read that now he doesn't have a bike, so I'm asking what happened. I guess that makes me a "creep"? No problem though, I guess I've been called worse in life

I can't think of a better selection of bikes other than echo(at such good prices), a Pure could probably outlast 5 BT's. I was super imprest when I rode the old Pure and if the new one is better..............

I had a bicycle when i rode with mike, I have a bicycle now that I ride as well as a new bicycle coming to me soon. I also borrow many peoples bicycles on group rides.

oh yeah and I'm not saying anything about the BT's, I have no doubt they wouldn't break under me. I bet they ride nice as well, but people say they are stiff which = horrible riding for me myself and I. Personal preference...I can't ride XTP or cous....

bwagner
09-05-2004, 11:00 PM
cool,
I've been borrowing bikes up till now also, I just ride whatever frame Mike isn't using anymore:D
Are you going to make it out to any of the N.E.P.S. events this coming season?

P.S. Yeah, I guess they are pretty stiff, but I'm a big fatass, so it all equals out, my fork is pretty much the opposite of stiff though(Brisa Elite). I'm actually a little worried about it right now, feels horrible to me being 200 pounds and all. Especially with a disc now, this thing flexes like no tommorrow

Back to the subject matter, IMO the Urban is the ugliest bike on the planet. I may be forgetting some that dont matter (like that blue giant that everyone posts about) but I hate the urban so very much

I have to say that I am impressed with the new Monty design of the rear disc mount. Based on my limited experience as a mechanical engineer and what little information a person can gleen from the few pictures we have seen, I think it might just hold up. I want.

Yes the Monty Urban is ugly, but so is every other trials bike on the face of the earth.

After having two mod Montys and one Stock Monty I switched to an Echo Pure like Andrew has suggested. Why? Because when I cracked my 25" Monty rim I had to wait four months to get a new one from Cosmo. Then I broke my hanger. By that time Cosmo was no longer the importer. Some Matt guy has claimed to be the new USA importer but my friend and I have tried emailing him a bunch of times and even tried calling and no replies from him. We also tried Monty directly a few times and they never replied. Because of bad business practices and difficulty to get parts I switched brands. Monty UK got me my parts faster than any Monty dealer in N. America. But their prices are in the stratosphere (like $30 us for a hanger), at least their service is good and they answer emails.

too bad about the 25" rear wheel because I like the looks of the new monty stock...so stupid making people buy their tire...they could actually have a competitive stock frame if they made it 26" anybody know why they would make such an obviously poor business decision?
