Well, turns out the owner of the LBS I work at, also OWNS Motobecane.

He was checkin out my Megamo and asked what kinda market there is for it. I told him it's pretty small community, but it's really popular in the more "variated terrained" areas like Colorado. He was briefly contemplating making a Motobecane trials protoype....

The only thing I really know about thier HTs(other than thier road bikes), is the Fly...frame weighs 2.8lbs and the guys at the shop ride it, and love it...completely built up bike is sub 20 lbs...

You think anybody would try one out if he made it?

I"d be interested in a light 2.8 pound trials frame. My fat shit coust is weighing in close to 6..

Tell him to put the disc mounts on backwards. That seems to be a good idea.
hah

I know Motobecane is REALLY REALLY popular with roadies, and semi-popular with the XC guys. Lifetime warranties...Kenisis tubing, might not be a bad idea ya know? I guess he just wanted my input on whether it'd be worth his while to make one. I didn't want to really chime in too much cause I'm a noob, that and I really don't know if it really would be orth his while...

can I get rear carbon stays on mine?

the fly is a full 6 pounds lighter than my fat shit bike, and its got a shock!

^^^That's what I'm sayin.....that thing is insane light for how durable it is. All the people who use Kenisis tubing say it's like 2x stronger than 7000 series AL...I dunno how accurate that is, but the roadies and XC guy love it. But I dunno how that will apply to trials usage....

and if you hop on the rear wheel the frame folds in half.

if I get a carbon fork, then I could have the bike folding on both ends.

elan, how do you have 3000 posts? Do you ever leave your computer?

I'm gonna myself write a script to post for me every minute for a week.

60*24*7

whoops, my math is bad, it'd be done in 2 days, if I left it running for a week, I'd have a post count of 10,000, and matt would probably fly out here to beat me down.

Now Ive just gotta figure out what to tell the script to post 4000 times.

my road bike is 5lbs heavier than that Fly team XC bike. I could probably build it up lighter than that without too much trouble...only if I went with that noodley SID though...I'm looking at a Fox f80...might be a bit difficult in hindsight. Shimano-free XC bike (except for front mech...).

I could ride a 3 pound trials frame as long as I keep dropping weight back to 'normal'.

my coust weighs 24 or 25 pounds. I thought it was pretty light until I got my road bike. My road bike weighs 16 pounds. My coust feels like a downhill bike now.

body weight? weren't you a habitual brawler of some description? I seem to recall a lean whippet. Hence no more videos? or because of no more trials? I could ride a 3lb frame for a while if dropped down to 65kg or so, but let's face it, aluminium frames under 4lbs are disposable anyway, 3 seasons at the most. Just don't be fooled into paying too much for light alum.

I went up to 175 pounds in the last few months from only lifting and eating.

I can get back to 155 easily, 5'11" ....I never broke my 3.4 pound crescent or my 3.7 pound woodman and they were both alum? For the cresent i was in the low 150s, low 160s for the woodman.

my motobecane road bike weighs 19 lbs stock. i rode it cross country last summer and it still feels as good as new. not that that has anything to do with the stress trials puts on a bike, but 2500 miles counts for something... maybe.

doesnt matter, if they came out with a trials frame id buy it.

my zoo was sub 3.5lbs ... it is still being ridden as far as i know.... strong ass frame says aye. 2.8 lbs seems a little extreme to me. but id love to ride one. as long as it was for free.

The zoo is still being ridden. It's not exactly recieving pro trials stress though.

heh, I emailed the company (the owner answers all eMails) just for shits and giggles. And I got the SAME EXACT REPLY that I told him in person when he asked me about my frame.

currently, the trials market is extremely small and is only a market in the central/northern US we presently are not producing a frame for trials

Heh....funny shit. I doubt if he made a trials frame it'd weighin at 2.8 lbs, but I think it'd prolly be pretty light..

that's fair enough, he's offering sub 20lb XTR/SID equipped hardtails for under $1600us. He can't have the margins to be babying a trials frame through the market.
