my crank is creaking

my crank makes this creaking sound (sorta like flexing maybe?) on the down stroke... what could this be? it didn't do it when i first got it. its a monty x-lite crank and i've heard some ppl have had trouble with em but i dunno if it is just loose or what. i don't think its my pedals either, it sorta sounds like the frame is flexing maybe but, i really don't know. help is appreciated. thanks -dustin

It could be:

Crack In Frame

Crank Not Tight enough, take off, grease and remount.

BB issues (buy a new one)

Pedal Bearing Issues.

Most likely its the crank a little bit loose or need some grease.

like Hydroboy said, check for any cracks in the frame.

but its probably something simple like, taking off the cranks, tighten the BB, and put on the cranks and tighten it down.

and if u have square taper bb, most manufactures recomments no grease, besides some high end Race Face ones. if u have splined BB....then grease away!

The only problem with using grease, the way i understand it, is it makes it to easy to overtighten, i have always greased mine, no problems yet.

I had a similar problem and tightening the BB seemed to fix it.
