Why doesn't someone in Texas throw a trials competition. Remember '98, '99, 00, 01, those were good trials event years in Texas 'cause alot of people were working on trials events. Oh that's right we just whine about having no trials comps to show up at, instead of taking the initiative to talk to some race promoters or other people and organize things. http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/images/icons/icon4.gif
Remember Kerrville, Comfort, San Antonio, City Park Moto/Bike Trials, Rocky Hill Ranch and Flat Rock Ranch (and other) races/trials events? Those promoters would still love to have a group put on trials events again in coordination w/their races. Hell, they'll take care of insurance and give you awards to pass out. Also they'll feed you, help get you get section judges and even register people.
Wouldn't it be cool if people from other states came to Texas 4 a trials event?
It was that way b4 here, Tom Neb and Ryder Okamura coming from CO. and taking home $ 4 their efforts.....Now that was f_ ing cool!
Hey Dave,
I elect you to take this on. If you have any ideas on how to do this or who to talk to let me know. I would be interested in trying to get something started.

I remember good old texas comps. If they were actually put on the would have to be up to par. Wouldn't be good if people came down from other states to a shit easy comp.

Sorry, I'm burned out on that thankless task. I was suggesting someone younger with time on their hands, say someone going to college with no job or someone with some spare time. I'm older than y'all think and have a business to run and I'm out of it nowadays as far as trials goes(BUI/UCI/NORBA???).....and people never help you with comps. I'll show anyone how to do it though if you have the energy.
What if Dallas got a comp together. Somewhere in the city or Grapevine lake, not that way north texas shit though. Austin can do the same. In Austin you could have a comp and the city wouldn't have to know.....or they'll let us use city park I think. I'll ask the city parks coordinator people. Don't ask don't tell may be best.
Do people ride in anywhere else in this state?
We should have casual comps where everyone puts in $5 and lay out lines for 2 classes, ride a few more spots and hand out $, beer or buds for the 3 best riders that day...I could handle doing one of those; mobile/hill country style. Jeremy could help me, right?

I remember those comps from 98/99 in those areas. I think the only people still riding from those days are me, you, and Aaron. Who was mostly responsible for those comps? Brendan and Kevin Ivey?
A City Park or Grapevine comp would be super easy, because all you have to do is throw down tape and go. Bring a stereo, a cooler full of water and beers and then you're set… just a laid back super fun comp.

I put on most all of those comps. Dude, I drug Brendan to Kerville and a few events to help me, Kevin did a Comfort 2 times and S.A. once (drunk as hell and the comps showed it). I put on about 14 comps total from 98-2001. I was burned out, then Lajitas got cancelled forever, so I quit caring. I would love 2 show up at a comp and just ride; like Stevomatic's event in St. Jo; that was great, camping and competing. I'm just sayin' it's time some of the people who always just show up at these events to put on a comp now. I've decided I'm going to do an Austin comp in late October( like the 23rd or 30th when it's cool), one like you're talkin' about Patrick. I bet I can still get some shops to give up some goodies, maybe other people can help. I bet Jeff and Jack could do a shirt, etc......I dunno everyone's area of expertise though......
Dave
Hey David,
I will come up with the shirts, score cards, and awards. I have also thought about trying to do a 6 comp series in the spring. Maybe 3 in Austin and 3 in Dallas rotating every other weekend. Sounds like we need to get together for a weekend of planning and riding. I know I can come up with some goodies for the events. We would just need to find a few places in Dallas that would allow us to have a comp. I think we could get at least 20 riders for the comps. My biggest concern would be insurance. We could always contact the race director for the TMBRA series to see if we could have a few comps at the MTB races. Just a lot of ideas running through my head.

To forgo insurance, you don't want any real sponsorships or names posted ANYWHERE. No names on flyers, shirts, No one will be doing this event, not me or any shop, it will just happen. Like tagging with spray, you get in and out and get it done! If you feel the need to sue someone, good luck with that! We don't wan't U at these events and I'll kick your ass in private. Tagging trials events onto MTB events can be a bitch or a blessing, depending on what they can do for U, which is not usually much; they want a free show from U and usually don't supply any obstacles. There is so much trouble going thru their race/registration systems and all that and in the end everyone complains.........We need underground events set up in out of the way natural areas where we go in and set up lines, judge each other. People in diff. cities could do this and then you'd have a series.
Like I said, we need to have a weekend where we can plan a few underground comps and of course we should ride some too. As far as a comp in late October, I will help with anything I can. We can call the comp The One Eyed Snake Trials Comp. The flyer will read- Come ride the One Eyed Snake. I will take care of some awards, t-shirts and score cards. I could probably come up with some goodies for the riders.
