hey everyone :Wavey: i was wondering wqhich rim to buy i have an echo pure and am running a D521 at moment and its too thin. i have used a koxx rim before but got flat spots in it and it wasnt very old so i was thinking of an echo rim or a Alex DM rim the alex one becuase its cheap and seems quite strong. echo cause i hear they are damn good.
which do you think i should get? also if there are any other suggestions they will be greatly appreciated
thanks luke :eek3danc:

I run a try-all XL rim in the back of my pure, works excellent. Any rebadged Alex DX32 (eg echo rims, megamo rims, PlanetX BMF) would be fine too...I think the Alex DMs will be too narrow and are only single walled. I have heard that people have flat spotting problems with the try-all rim, I think the materials and production of the Alex is better, but I love the width of the try-all.

I am gonna break the mold and reccomend a Sun Doublewide!
they are 45mm wide and have double sidewalls so they are hard to dent. They are also welded, eyeletted and the grinds on them last almost as long as 521s (unlike koxx rim grinds that can wear down in a day!)
downpoints? a couple, they are heavy and exspensive. I have managed to get mine to weigh about 800g by drilling 104 holes in it, seems to be holding up well.

might as well get the DX32 .. its wide enough, can be drilled and ground if you want.. and they're cheap and tough... the echo is just an alex that I think they pre-drill..

You've got to be kidding right? I mean, the doublewide isn't even rim-brakable, so grinded a disc brake rim? :umno:Show me pics....

here is a pic of mine
they dont really show the sidewalls, but they are flat, but just at more of an angle than a normal rim, perfectly fine to use with rim brakes.
sorry about the blurryness

Yeah...I was owned....but that looks pretty fragile, well with all those holes, but shit...that's insane.
How's it ride??? Holding up good? I was thinkin that since the sidewalls weren't designed for rim brakes, they might be iffy on grinding the outside, specially since the rim is a softer al (flatspots easily)....
Looks crazy though if nothing else....lotsa rim tape too, LOL.

it seems to be holding up pretty well, I have been running it with low psi tyres and doing big gap-downs, it just nods it off.
I dont know what alloy it is, but it deffo seems harder than koxx rims. My grind that I put on last month is still rough and the brakes work nicley, cant say I have heard the same things about koxx and alex rims.
here is a pic of my bmf rim it replaced, I put some pretty hefty dints in it (its like that the whole way round), so far my doublewide is still true and undented after 2 months use

Intresting.....it seems like those rims were, to some, were the absolute worst rims ever. From a combo of weight and flatspotting/durability. I had that as a front rim on my .243.....it was heavy as shit with an Intense DH tube, and 2.5 tire on it :?...
But hell, I guess if you drill out ANY rim with 100+ holes it'll be light. Hmm..although I see it, I for some reason am still skeptical...I dunno why either.....seriously, I have no idea why...but a vid would be nice :bigthumb:

I cant make any vids at the mo, when I get my new computer I will try and get some done.
this is still a heavy rim though, even with all the holes in it.

you can just buy an alex dx32 ... a real one i mean ... works a million times better than my tryall xxl rim. on my try all i got flatspots easily, it always needed to be trued, my grinds wore down in LITTERALLY 30 minutes of riding max. now that i have a dx 32 i think i wont ever change, has not needed to be trued ever, grind has lasted a long long time, and so on ... by the way im not exagerating. also i think the width of the tryall is a bit much, i kept hitting the little balls on the sides of my ankle on the brake bosses and so every time i rode i would be bleeding there.
if all efforts to find a dx32 fail i would definately suggest the echo rim.

echo is not quite the same as the dx32 on close inspection. mine goes fine though.
