what...if you want to ride trials ,buy a trials bike, not some crap for some crappy going down hills and jumping off of ramps or somthing like that. and spare everybody the "i want an all-around bike that i can do everything on" ... plain truth is, that bike doesnt exist. if you want to dirt jump and do high-speed, downhilly, trail riding stuff, buy a bike like the one in the picture. if you want to ride trials, just commit and buy a trials bike.

Get a damn Monty Mod used...they have seat tubes, and they are COMPLETE and like on average $400.....

Norco moment and/or TT are great choices in the non UCI seat class.

Definately not a monty mod!!!!!!!!!!

There was a Curtis frame on here a long while back and I don't think it sold, check out the used section it should be there. The curtis frame is a great choice and would be my first pick for shure.

Lots of Used Norco's for sale so they are easy to find.

Good luck.

Considering the guy is a just going to start, and judging by some of his posts in other forums, I would say Monty Mod would be a good choice cause he's really not wanting to shell out anything.....i.e. another "I want to start, but don't want to spend anything."

for beginners I'd say a planetX zebdi is a great starting point, you can go a long way on them, they're easy to learn on, and by the time they crack it's probably time to move on anyway. I don't think learning on a longer bike is necessarily the key, get the easier stuff down before you move on to advanced things. You won't find cromoly trials bikes (stock) unless you get them made for you, pretty much.

Figure on getting a used bike, from inside the US most likely. Your options are not that numerous. The questions you are asking are good ones, but its going to boil down to who has what for sale, on this and maybe a couple of other forums. I started with a Planet X totally by chance, and thats a good place to start especially if you can find a used one.
I wanted to try a mod so I negotiated trading a mtb for one. Even though its a Monty x-lite and not one of the latest and greatest models, its still a killer place to start. You're gonna bust your balls coming up with a dream machine in your head and then trying to find a good used one at a decent price.

For a beginner, looking back now, I think the main thing is trying to know if a stock or a mod bike is best for you. Your first bike, whichever the answer to that question is, is probably not going to be your *last* bike.

PX zebdis are nice, i started on one like everyone else i think, they'd work for street too i think

The ONLY bikes that would come close to working for street and trials would be the norco moment and the curtis. My zebdis have all sucked so much cock and ass for anything but trials.

i've been riding trials for a year and a half, i have a deal on a norco tt, would it stand up to some light park ridden smoothly, and all other forms of trials

except big drops, and a surly 1by 1 fork up front

I'm going to turn my zeb into a rigid, SS street/skatepark/jump machine when I get back. After I reweld around the BB shell...might just strip all the paint off...polish mr. demolish as it were...so zebs have a good shelf life...mine's three year's old, has been cracked for two years, and is still going strong under a poor clydesdale friend of mine.
