I wanted to know how wide the holes should be, is there a standard size? Are there any precautions I should take when drilling a rim? Simply, whats the best way to do?

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Try and use a drill press or a similar drill, hand drills are :greddy: for drilling rims. Mark spots on your rim with a pencil or whatever beforehand if you want to get really precise holes. Drill small pilot holes too, so the big bit goes in easier and its more centered. I dont know what rims you have, so i cant really suggest a hole size. Just go as big as you can get without hitting the sidewalls or getting close to the spokes. After you're done drilling, just use two layers of electical tape as rim strips, it works nice, and comes in many colors. Good luck

Should you drill the rims before its laced to a hub or afterwards?

I drilled before because i used a drill press, but it might actually be better to drill afterwards if you're just using a normal drill.
