22-18 is real nice, on natural I prefer 22-19 though. You dont want to go to a 20 tooth chainring unless you have to clear a huge chainstay yoke or something (like the XTP). 20 tooth rings put more tension on the chain and snap them a little more frequently, unless youre pretty smooth. Anyway, that's my opinion and my experience.

I used to run 22-18 but then it started feeling too hard, so now I'm running 22-19. I think I was looking for more control over the bike, and I will definitely not be going back to a harder gear.

I ran a 22-17 for a week and my pedal kick gap increased by 1 foot. THe problem was it was hard to maintain balance in such a hard gear. Im now running 22-19 which is quite a bit easier, but I think I'm going to try 22-18 when I get a new rear wheel.

I'm somewhat of a beginner (about a year of riding), and I've found that 22-19 gives you a big more torque on natural. You can overcome the chaotic features and get on your rear easier. I suck, so I'm on my ass most of the time.

22-18 or even 17 is a bit more fun for urban. So there ya go.

I agree, I'm kinda a begginer/sport after 4 months of riding, and from practicing on palets, I've found 22-17 a bit easier, but having a harder gear and being able to pedal kick farther is much more rewarding sometimes.

22-21 for me.

Ah, the annoyance of running front freewheel, my numbers don't match at all. Generally though, I run a real low gear.

Started with 18-15 (22-18.3).

Eventually moved to 18-16 (22-19.6) for most urban, and 18-17 (22-20.7) for natural.

22-18 urban
22-21 natural
22-18 is way to hard on natural for me

for urban 18:15 - equal to 22:18.3 (1.2)
for natural 22:21 (1.05)

man, i have ridden hardly any natural since i got my echo. how gay. i'd imagine i'd use 18:17

i started out on 22-15. learned to pedal gap and pedal up like a sun-ov-abitch. quickly learned that i was retarded for running that gear. ran 22-17 for a year. now ive been on 22-18 for about a year as well. i ride mostly urban.

22/21 for everything. The Canadian comp riders gear.

22/19 is the canadian urban riders gear.

It really seems to be almost divided perfectly like that.

Hey Andrew. Do you know what your gear would be if you had a 22t in the front.

I'm guessin like 22-21.

22-21 for me, but I would go higher in very rare circumstances (for moves that require lots of momentum, where you carry speed and do a full-pedal at the end). Right now my mech is locked out at 22-21 though. I am changing to 20-19 pretty soon as my main gear.

i use 20-17..but as for you who asked the question, jsut go with what you feel most comfortable with... there isnt really a standard for gearing, it depends on your skill level and strength really.... i use lower gearing than msot because it makes up for what i lack in technique.

i think australians must use harder gearing, because what im running, 20-17 is about the lightest gear any one runs, evvery one runs 22-18, 22-17. and a few run 22-19.

22-18 is harder then 20-17. 22-19 is easier. i dunno what you were saying but i thought you said you run a harder gear then normal. where as over here its easier gear then normal.

ok, i think i get it... i dont kno why everybody down under uses that shit..i really dont think that there is much of a standard, it differentiates between a lot of people, there might be 3 or that use hte same exact gearing. meh.

22-19. It's about perfect, 22-18 is a bit hard to control when trying to stay in a spot.
