Austin Group Ride Plan- March 26, 27, & 28th [Archive]

David Weyman posted this in a thread that got way off-topic so here it is all again.

So enough folks seem in agreement that the next group ride is in Austin March 26th-28th.
We can meet at Zilker Park later Friday afternoon(like 3pm. or so), since most all know where the park is......
People will trickle in and call the group cell phone for the day and hookup, while the others are riding Zilker. We can ride 4 a while and get food, then split off to hotels or campgrounds or houses for the night. We can meet the next morning somewhere like Bull Ck.(loop 360) then hit City Park or the Mc Call's or UT or something.
If you wanna stay at my house(25 min. south/west Austin-10 miles west of San Marcos) there is room for 3 more guys to stay indoors and the rest can campout in tents. We can cookout or order pizzas and have a fire if ya want. There's some great riding a few yards from my house and 1/2 mile away is the Blanco River with mammoth boulders and a swimming hole for Saturday evening and Sunday morning.....San Marcos has some ridin' too.

Post here what youre able to do and start to plan where youll be staying.

Im coming in early Saturday morning and leaving Saturday night, I just need to know where to meet Saturday. Will it be best if we all just meet at the McCall's place that day and leave? Or do we actually want to plan a spot and meet there?

McCall's, wherever most people plan to meet I can work on detailed directions and post them, like I did with the Dallas directions. If someone can give me an address or something to work with Ill be more than happy to do that again.

I will probably be there. Pretty sure Saturday but hopefully Friday also. Are we riding Sunday also? That would be cool also.

Dont count me out on the sleeping order just yet though. Hopefully I can talk my way into going Friday also.

I hear there are plans to ride all 3 days if some are willing. I think Seth and I are both leaving Saturday night though, so we're probably out of the Sunday riding.

I think we should meet back at Zilker Park Saturday morning, like 10 am ish, so some guys can ride shiprock and maybe we could go up the trail to more rocks, once everyone trickles in and all.(It is a cool place 2 ride while waiting 4 all 2 show up...you know?) Then head up 2 Bull Ck....City Park......hit some UT? Downtown?...who knows...

I did not think I would be able to go because of the upcomming race on Saturday night. Come to find out it is in a little town called Kyle which is supposed to be just South of Austin. I am trying to work it out to where I could do both.(ride and race) JJ

Yeah Chris, ..actually Zilker Park is part of the Greenbelt.. If you go up the trail a little bit, you can ride at a place called Campbells Hole. If it's dry enough the natural that gets exposed is killer. Gaps, drops, crevaces, boulders, etc.. Definitely one of my favorite spots. Hopefully it will be dry for you guys

I am down with that. I am off of the racing for that weekend. For some reason the orginazation feels that when Nascar comes to town you have to stop what you are doing and go. I will be up for that.

A lot of people have already made plans for this weekend. Let's not change plans 2 days before the ride. I'm staying with the priginal plans. Leaving for Austin on Friday around 11:00.

Actually guys, all of this back and forth on the Austin gig really isn't cool. Seth, this is supposed to be YOUR farewell ride of sorts and I believe that you started this whole thing up. Not trying to be lame here, but some of us have had to plan for this (kids to the Grandparents, time off from work, etc.) and I really think we should stick to the plan.

Seth, this will probably be the last time we get to hang out with you for a very long time, so I do hope that you show. If not, have Stan contact us for a ride down there.

Yeah I know, and I agree Jack. I didn't suggest switching weekends, it was someone elses idea. but when it came up I wanted to know what everyone else thought. My knee is jacked up from riding big rock state park, I thought it would go away in a day or two but it hasn't..........Stan just told me that he'll go either weekend but next weekend would be better for him.
I know Dave W. is up for riding both weekends, what about the McCalls?
I'm just trying to see where everone is at.....

David, what do you mean by "just like Friday." Just that we're meeting at Zilker park just like Friday or that you think we're meeting at 10am on Friday, or both?

Saturday at 10am at Zilker sounds cool, but most of the DFW guys wont be even leaving until 11 or so on Friday, so having a general meeting place for between 3pm and 4pm sounds a little better for Friday.

How about all meet the Shell station Scott posted between 3pm and 4pm for Friday and then meet at Zilker park between 10am and 11am for Saturday?

You Austin guys are calling the shots, Im just trying to clarify. :p :) Thanks!

Y'all can go up to G-Town at 3 on Friday and then try driving around in the rush hour traffic before it's dark at 6:30 pm. I had said Zilker Park because of the central location, people from Dallas know it, parking, and all of the riding within 5 minutes distance of there, Campbells hole, shiprock....People will start getting there near 2:30-4:00 I bet and can be riding while they're waiting
for the rest of us, then we can hit the area 'till dark. Saturday we can meet where ever, it should be a big centrally located place we can park and share rides from and return to at the end of the day. Saturday we can hit City Park, Bull Ck, G- Town, UT, etc.....

None of this is set in stone, but someone has to drive the ship(so to speak), so we can ride as many places as possible while these fine people are in Austin

Seth, that program I use is on my machine at home and Im at work right now.

But I did want to ask you and everyone else leaving from DFW if I can meet you guys on I35 somewhere, say Hilsboro or so? And caravan the rest of the way. I can meet at anytime.

The reason I was mentioning GT is because ppl we be going south on 35 and the metting place it right off I 35 and the place to ride is like 5 min away and alot of different rocks to hit,
and then on sat we meet at zilker or where ever., BC sat we will have all day to figure out which place we are going to hit next.

Sounds sensible since people are coming South outta Dallas, but for whatever it's worth, I'm with Dave: there's no way in Hell you're gonna get me to drive North on I-35 on a Friday afternoon/evening. I'm just coming out for affirmation on just how badly I suck and to take pictures though, so don't take my opinion for much...

I do think that someone should be designated Event Coordinator. It sounds like Dave has good plans, plus he's hosting people. With this many people getting together and different arrival times a real plan would be great.

For what it's worth, here're my digits too: 512 470- Ate Three To For. I should probably be just a fallback contact due to my availability and general cluelessness.

I guess Ill put my vote in for Zilker at 3pm on Friday. If coming north on I35 is that bad for you guys and traffic will only get worse going south past 3 then it just sounds like an easier plan, pppllluuusss, we can ride while waiting for people, unlike the Shell station. :p Zilker park looks like it is easy to get to anyway. Ill post some detailed directions tonight with pictures on how to get there.

Maybe we should start another thread with the final plans and some contact info? :?

I tried riding today and the wind was blowing me all over. I would get on the rear wheel and it would turn me 90-180.

Now I am mad since I am missing a big ass ride, so I will attempt to go ride again.

does anyone have an old set, or spare set of isis cranks for my friend Stu (http://people.tamu.edu/%7Esww6767/photos/DSC00212.jpg) that is riding with us saturday? he broke a truvativ stylo in half while pedal kicking :owned: , he is using my old sqaure tapered right now, and is hoping to get something stronger for the ride sat.
