There's more trials riding than you could shake stick at just west and southwest of Austin. The deal is there is a fault line that runs slightly (1/2 mile or so) west of I-35 from New Braunfels up to Austin. The hill country begins there and makes for a lot of caves and good rocky mountain biking and rock climbing. Perdinales State Park is really about the best trials and camping area with a river going thru it.
We used to get some big rides in town in Austin, we should have a party/campout at one of the rocky state aprks sometime, since there's no more real comps or get togethers in Austin any more...
