No... I am not shocked. I got a year out of it which was surprising considering the build hah.

It was an awesome feeling frame. Flexy but otherwise I loved the geo. Need to get another or something similar.

But yeah, I was riding the other night with my buddy, just getting over the flu so excited to ride since it had been a while and I was doing a couple massive gaps pretty easily despite being sick. But they felt weird when I landed lol

Then I do a little 6 foot drop trying to impress some chicks and BOOM just about landed on my ass, look and my wheels crooked and the chainstay is pushed down past the drop out.

I snapped right through a weld which is shady, but what else can you expect from echo.

I've been riding it pretty hard though. Plus I got back into some streety stuff this summer so spins and shit probably added additional stress.

I think this is more faulted towards a poor weld versus structural integrity. I dont know shit about aluminum welding, but regardless it should be stronger than the pipe its holding.

When I got a look at the weld when the pipe was pushed out, It looked like the weld didn't go that deep. Kind of like it just glazed the surface of the pipe and no deeper. But I'm not a welder... so I'm going to stop making assumptions.
I'm betting more a minor defect then anything. But still, a year of hard abuse too...

Lame.. at least you didn't get hurt.

I wouldn't feel bad at all about getting that repaired, maybe add a little gusset between the chain and seat-stay to make ya feel better.

Hey, It works sometimes. I had a bunch of preteens watching me... they wanted the sausage!

Oh I mean, 18 yr olds:eek3danc:

I might as well try and fix it. Buddy has an adamant he wants to give me, I'd hop on that in no time, except fuck that mod spacing crap. My kings been so loyal.

Oh well, figure something.

back on the mod. I made some bar extensions quick at work today. Now my bontragers are 30" wide. I love it.

But I'm not a welder... so I'm going to stop making assumptions.

Then let a welder make assumptions for you! If the crack goes right down the middle of the weld (all the way around) then the weld and/or joint design is bad. But the edge of the bead is a common place for a fatigue crack to start. In any event... I would so weld that back together!

(and before you ask me to weld anything, know, i'm not a *good* welder! I know just enuf to be dangerous)

:ugh: My welder at work fucks his barnyard animals. I dont trust him to do anything.

I'm not too concerned about fixing it. Since I basically exhanged my old frame for this brand new. What ever, The geo is beautiful in my eyes and it was nice and light. But it trully is a shit built frame. With the fuck ups its taken from me. If I fix this, it will be something else that actually hurts me.

It will go in the closet with the other echo products that have surprisingly failed.

You should definately get that welded back up. You seem pretty pleased with the way the frame rode.

I've done a fair bit of welding (full-time for almost a year), and although I never got my hands on aluminium welding, it's the same principle as steel. And on top of that, we looked into the theory of welding and all that crap during my mech. eng. degree.

Anyhow, if you take it to a good welder, they should be able to grind back the welds mostly, then weld it up again. Then you may as well put a gusset in while you're at it. Then do the same on the other side. Not that if you put a gusset in here you'll be transferring alot of the stresses to the tube above the chainstay, thus it will need some good welds on it, or it may just get torn off. (See pic)
