Yeah, likewise in title,
I currently dont own, but are looking for an actual trials bike, but was thinking that my current 26'er schwinn will suffice.
The breaks arent much, and the tires are skinny, and the frame gets in the way a lot. Ive been trying to keep my tire pressure up, so my tire doesnt fold, or i dont get a flat spot in my rim.
Should i be doing this on that bike? All ive been doing is just small bunny hops, and just trying more basic stuff.
and also, how different would a real trial bike feel compared to the bike i was talking about? How much would the weight difference be?
I'm guessing not much for a weight difference, but it'd probably be easier to tuck, and have more space for tucking.

i'm sorry, but i have absolutely no clue who that is.
I'm sorta just stepping into the trial biking scene, after a few years of the uni trials scene.

Yes, that bike is ok for starting out with the very basic moves like you are doing. Anything you can do to gain balance and get more comfortable will help you out until you get a real bike. Now let me tell you how significant the difference will be with a real trials bike...... It will be significant.

Okay, cool! Thanks for the info dude!
I cant wait until i can find a cheapo and buy it... Currently, despite all my searching, i cant find a single bike under $300.

I doubt that you will be able to find a decent trials rig for under $300. Keep riding the schwinn and save your money until you can spend $600+.

less than 500 on a trials bike is insanity.
My rear hub alone costs almost that much!:hs:

You can learn VERY basic moves like the endo, rear wheel hop, side hop, etc
Play around using your brakes even though they may suck badly. Also I would invest in the Ryan Leech masting the art of trials dvd (even though I don't like him very much) It's a really good step by step learning dvd of all the basic and some advanced moves.
Just something to keep your hopes up!

Thats an awesome vid! I mean, not too extreme of riding, but its on a road bike lol.
I dont think my brakes are that bad, they can hold pretty well.
Well, i dont have $600 to spend on a bike right now. Currently all my money is being saved, since i know i'm going to need to spend a bit this winter. I need new ski boots, a paintball gun, and possibly some building supplies. And maybe a car, and insurance.
Yeah, i'll try and look for a bike still...
oh, do you know if you can cut the seatpost off a bmx bike and make it a mod bike? Or is it too weak/heavy? My brothers friend, whom works at bike shop, says that you could do that, and it'd work. But, the problem with that is i really want a stock bike.

biggest difference between trials bikes, bmx bikes, and mountain bikes is the geometry. not the seat, the "tucking room", or the weight.

I used to ride on an old Schwinn Homegrown. Assuming you're using a smaller frame you'll be fine for a while, but a real trials bike will be much better.

okay, i was just looking to hardly anything on a trial bike...
Since, i dont wanna spend too much money, and then feel like not doing trial biking. I cant figure out how to hop on the rear wheel on my shwinn. Its a big bike..

you might (but not likely) find a good bike for 300 bucks or less. i got a used (but in very good shape) monty 221 xlite for 235 bucks because it was in a pawn shop and the sell didnt know what it was or what it was worth.

ride your schwinn, cause if you buy a trial bike under 300$, the difference between your new bike and the schwinn won't be significative. Ride it, you can learn loads of things, and when you have 600$ spend it on somthing. Then the difference will be significative.
my friend rolled really good on his rockyhopper.

Dude, just call me. You can try my bike out and see how you like it. I think I also have the Leech vid which you can certainly check out. I started on a Schwinn then moved to and Azonic, Echo, Woodman, Zoo, Gu, and back to a Zoo... You should be able to get the feel for the basic trials moves on the Schwinn.

all you have to do is have fun. you dont have to be good at trials to have fun. personall id say any bike is good enough. i do some minor trials stuff on a full suspension DH bike when i dont have my little mod bike around.(or have to go more than 1 mile on that trip)
Pretty much everyone in this thread has been spot on, which is strange.
The main question is, do you enjoy trials on your current bike? If you dont, trials ios not for you.
It was 2000 when I started and I was 21. I started on a huge framed, cheap, cross country rig (21"?), wouldnt even consider riding something so huge for XC now.
But, I learned so much on that bike, I set up courses after work riding around bits of rubbish, through ditches, up slopes. I had so much fucking fun on that bike I sometimes wish I could go back to it. Just do what feels good to you, dont worry about fucking Ryan Leech.

actually, i more just enjoy riding with no hands at the moment. I think i'm gonna stick with uni trials for the most part, unless i can find some POS bike on ebay, or craigs list.

Well you might as well stick with it until you hit 36'' static :hahano:
