I got a white industries FFW and was wondering if it may be broken. I don't know if all the pawls are fully engaging anymore. Seems to be more play. Is there any way of telling and does this problem even occur in the FFW? Can some of the pawls break? Anyone have a photo of the insides of a FFW?

You can open it up and see if any of the pawls or springs are broken, and if they are, you can get White Industries to send you new ones. I don't know how much that costs or if they even charge you.

Ya the overhaul is really simple with just a spanner wrench and flush out the gunk. If anything is broken inside you can purchase individual parts from WI, no need to buy a new one unless the shell or the main body is broken (or warranty I guess).

Cool, great find, thanks for the post!

Crazy to think that those tiny pawls are all that seperates you from death...lol

Yeah I am still not sure on how to take off that green lock ring. YOu know where is says you have to put a tool into the two holes. Are those holes just there so you can get a grip on the lock ring and then unscrew it off of the main body?

yes. there's a special tool that fits into both these holes but i just use a small allen key and a hammer.

It's Park's spanner wrench SPA-2. You can get them at any bike shop. Handy tool.

it's called a pin tool or a pin spanner/wrench. Not a bike specific tool.
