hi dudes!
i think about changing my bike. i am 173cm and ride a pitbull 05 with cs 375 in long with wb 1095 an bb+5
im not so big so i want a shorter bike for me.
with a shorter bike (and same stem) i would have to pull harder on the bars then. is there any advantage in jumping height? what if the cs additionaly increases to 385.

here my suggestions:

in principle bunnyhopping is like a swing.
we have got two lever arms of force.
both meet at the bb
the puller is from the bars to bb
and the pusher is from bb to rear hub.
so i pull on the bars and push me away from ground.
a shorter wb and a longer cs decreases the lenght of the puller and increases the lenght of the pusher.
a pull of a certain range would be translated into a longer range of the push than before.
that explains why i have to pull harder on the bars to get the front wheel up. but does it also mean that i can jump higher due to elongated acceleration range?
because in sports its always a "longer acceleration <-> higher outcome"-law

does this work in trials riding? will i be able to jump higher with longer cs and shorter wb?

what do riders with a cs 385 say?

cheers

My honest and sincere advice?

You can bunnyhop on ANY bike.

You can tap ANY bike.

You will learn to ride whatever you get. If you want a shorter bike, buy one. Youll get used to it and enjoy the hell out of it.

ps. Are you a pro rider? If not, dont worry about all that stupid physics shit. Just ride.

1095 is prolly a bit long for 173cm height...
thats just my opinion.

Something in the 1070-1080 range might be a bit easier

ive been standing on the short czar for a few minutes, and first impression was that the frontwheel really pulled me down.
obviously this bike will be easy to spin around.
i often read about the advantage of a shorter cs, but advantages of a longer cs are rare to read. why?

Having just gone from a 1095WB/375cs Adamant to Ozonys with 1085WB/385cs it feels much shorter and feels better for my height (175ish). You would think 10mm WB less would not be that noticable but the longer CS also makes it feel shorter. The front of it pulls up much easier also.

hey jonny, what about the rear balance on rails for example?
cheers

:slap: go ride your fucking bike, it will make more of a difference than 10mm in WB. Or buy another one, then ride it. Most bikes are pretty much the same nowadays. Pick low, mid, or high BB, and buy a shorter frame. Done.

1. Longer chainstays help you gap farther if you have bad technique. That's all.
2. Never pull on your bars to jump. It's a common mistake.
3. Ride.

You can tap ANY bike.

This is perhaps true but I definitely wasted a year on a Tibo going nowhere with taps and then got on a woodman and instantly figured them out and started improving.

Would you explain a little more please. Never heard that before.

I don't find it makes any difference to balance on any size of object, although I don't gap to rails very often.

I find 375's to be too short. The rear end seems too flicky, and balancing on the rear wheel seems tricky because the rear end feels too short. 380-385 feels better IMO, my bike is 383, feels perfect. Much easier to do rear wheeling...

I kinda find it funny that, there's a lot of users on this forum with the attitude of "Just go out and ride it" or "spend more time riding instead" with other people, but they themselves seem to spend more time on this forum, than riding? haha.

do as we say not as we do

Pulling on the bars will only get you so far. Especially on gaps, you want to push the bars. Think of pushing along your toptube/seatstays into your rear hub. When you take off/let off the brake, the bike should be behind you. Watch good riders.
