hello folks!
ive recognized that some dob frames have allready been broken by some riders. what about the fork and the rims?
i am not the lightes one with 86kg. would it last? maybe its better to just use dob for the front rim...
any experiences so far?

Same here. I have a front DOB, runs strong. The grind wears down faster than my rear tryall alu rim, but it still holds for weeks. As for frames.. I dunno. My biggest problem with the stock DOB frame is the geo, it's too short for my taste. As soon as they would come out with a 1080-1100 frame I would hit it.

I shifted my DOB forks sharpish as soon as the legs fell off Rowan's.
The weld seems to have little to no penetration into the material, and as such doesn't really blend the legs to the crown, but effectively sticks them on like blue tac
From what I've heard, the front rims are worth a go, and seem to hold up well (though will not hold a grind), yet the rears die relatively quickly

muddyfox is running a rear DOB rim and it seems to hold up well for him... maybe he will chime in here at some point

the frames are terribly flexy, so im guessing the fork is the same way. i'm 140lbs and i wouldnt ride the forks.

Yeah , ive been running front and rear for maybe 4 months and they are holding up as well as any other rim ive had.
Ive bashed the rear pretty good too. I grind it once a month, same as my try-all.
Id buy them again.

To be fair, when I was running the fork (for around a month/6 weeks or so) I didn't notice a huge eal of flex, certainly no more than say, a set of Urbans. They have the internal rib within the legs remember, which helps to eliminate jellyness.
I'm around 75kgs (165lbs) or thereabouts if it helps at all
Other than the welds, I was really impressed with my set - It was like riding with no front wheel!

DOB front rim FTW, I have the 28hole one and its brilliant. I'm not game to try any other DOB parts though.

i might think of running a rear dob on the front, still very light and abuse the crap out of it while i try to snap a pair of forks im testing

dude push the envelope! :coold: we need encouraged guys like you!
also thanks to all answers.
i still got a question. right now i ride echo rims with brown tryall pads. i love this combination. which pads are best for dob rims?
ride on!

The Neon forks are so far so good. They feel stiffer than echo urbans, and are holding up to everything im trying on them so far
i dont personally know which pads are better on a job rim since i run disc on it
but just thinking* that magnesium is a comparably a softer material than 6061-t6. I think think pads with a softer compound might do better job?

like muddyfox said - coust pads
other than coust pads wearing out fast on a good grind, i've only heard good things about them

I had a front rim on for a while, no problems until one day, I had a nasty fall on a drop gap, and taco'd the front rim. lol I think just about any rim would have though...they're just as strong as any other rim in my opinion...but like others have said, they don't grind up very well, but neither do try-all rims! These rims would be excellent for anyone running a smooth rim setup or disc.
I've also ridden the dob 26" frame. I really like the geometry, and it's a very smooth bike, but I didn't care for the dropouts, and there was a lot of flex in the back end. I'm waiting for DOB to release a 135 mm frame that's also got a built in booster. I'd ride that in a second...

I am running front and rear DOB rims...
Grind doesn't last long, but I have had a few big hits front and rear and the rims aren't even out of true yet...so far I am pretty happy, but I am 165lbs and a fairly light rider...
I threw some washers on the rear inside the nipples to makes shizz stronger. Might advise to do that, only added 11 grams, lol.
It didn't take long before my friend's rear DOB rim got a lot of dents.

thats good to hear :)
it all comes down to how well the wheel is built
has anyone realised - well i think i have - there seem to be more weight weenies since the dob magnesium rims came out.. like come on, they are already lighter
washers on the spokes, i think i will do that too, thats an awesome idea!

Soft compound does not really have anything to do with the ability to grip (or not) on a particular hardness of rim material.
