I was wondering if anyone is using the new Schwalbe Big Betty tire for 08'. I believe they redesigned it with a bit better side wall. I used to use the older ones but after about8 months the sidewalls break down and I start getting flats. Are the new ones any better??? But if I'm not replacing my tire's in 8 months I guess I should ride more ;)

Also has anyone used the 500-600 gram front tires. If so how do they hold up.

My bike is 26LBS....it needs a diet. It used to be 23.5, but I've slacked with heavy parts

I'm not sure if they changed anything. They do have the double wall version now but weigh 1150 grams.

The steel bead is 1150 I believe and the folding is between 850-890...At least thats what I'm told. I never actually weighed it myself.

I got the tires in May, so I guess it's the 08.
Rear is Big Betty Goey Glue compound, grips like crazy. Grips same as tryall tires.
Front: Nobby Nic. 490gr, Grip is excellent, no folding, holds great.
All an all I love it, it helped to put my bike in the 9.5kg range.

you are dissapointed in a rear tire that lasts 8 months??? i'd say that's pretty good.

I was gonna say. I go through like 2 rear tires a season, and that's 6 months or so.

I know. I usually replace them in 6 anyways. But I ride at Rays MTB alot in the winter (about 4 days a week) so they don't wear much in the winter.

Schalbe big betty 08 > all
grips better than anything else, and is light

I use the albert front (2.35). It grips to things.

I disagree with most of what's been said so far. I've got a Schwalbe Big betty gooey gluey tire, and I honestly find it lacks grip on a lot of terrain. It's worn down really fast as well. My next tire will be a Try-all.

I never knew you could get a soft compound schwalbe tyre. Is it a dual ply one?

It would seem to me that the perfect rear tyre would have 1.grippy soft compound, 2.dual ply walls, and 3.folding kevlar bead. Seems to me you can never have all three, the first two being the most important to me.

Upgrade to a tire twice as heavy, with the same grip, and the same pinchflat protection. Whee.

Of Maxxis ST/SR, Michelin, Tryall, and Schwalbe, the Schwalbe grips best and is the lightest.

Schwalbe's don't grip that well! Mike Bentham agrees...he had one for a day, and gave it away because he hated how poorly it gripped...

I find they're especially bad in wet weather.

...so I have the Big Betty 2.4 on rear and Nobby Nic 2.1 on the front wheel....and both grip like crazy....sometimes Iīm like :eek3danc: :wtf: when I see what it holds on....and I donīt think they wear down as fast, itīs logical that a softer compaund wears down faster than a not as soft one...the only problem is, that they are quite expensive...

I think grip wise they work great. I've used Maxxis, Michelin, Try-All, and currenty I'm on Kenda Telonix....I'm moving back to Schwalbe's afer my Kenda's wear out.

I work at a bike shop part time so I was able to buy them from there. Or I know www.midwestbiketrials.com (http://www.midwestbiketrials.com) has them. I am very happy with them. The rear tire weighs in at 1230gor so and the front is 720g. Not a bad weight. Stick-E compound and flat protection. I havent had a flat since I installed them.

Acolyte rides them as well.
