I really want a custom pain job or design on my frame. I'm soon to be buying a Bionic B1 frame in silver or black, but i'm not sure which one to buy? and how could i get myself a paint job or design? Is there any tips out there for doing it myself or anything? Thanks.

Regards,

Anton.

Personally I don't think it's worth it to get a professional paint job on a frame you are bound to scratch up. Some people spray paint their frames but in my experience it chips easily.

Look in the phonebook for painters/powder coaters?

I'm currently painting my frame now. What I'm doing is I bought a paint stripper which is like an industrials strength aircraft stripper, really strong shit you don't want to get on you. Then I stripped the original paint off, sanded the frame, and then primed it with a etching primer for aluminum. Then I just used spray paints for Aluminum, and after they dry I'm going to use a clear coat, and empty about a whole can on it. I'll post pics probaby next week or so when it's finished. It's a lot more work than you would think doing it (closest to) the "right" way. Hopefully it'll be worth it.

Hope this helps...

Vaughn over at trialsin.com has a hookup for custom painted frames. Ask him what the deal is.

I've got a friend who does powder coating and I could check on a price for you. Powder coating would last longer than just spray painting. You would have to ship it to Ohio. Where are you located?

Hey all, thanks...this is useful information :) Unfortunatley i am located in the UK and i can't ship my frame into the USA :/ but Mikeyr89; that does help me alot, thanks!

I was just wondering, could i not just get some spray paint for alluminium and just spray over my frame then give it a clear coat? Thanks!

Haha I'm happy to help ya. You could just paint it and then clear coat it but it wont look as good and how the paint is supposed to look. Also if there are decals and what not and the frame isn't a solid color on the bottom of your paint it will be hard to get a even coat. I hope that helps!

I recommend keeping your paint build-up as thin as possible, use only as much as it takes to get the point across. I have found that too many coats of enamel or laquer will lead to a soft and easily chipped finish.

Ask anyone at an autobody supply shop and they'll tell you the same.
