im getting my first bike pretty soon and was wondering if its worth it for me to get an avid bb7 disc in the front or just stick with a v brake?
i was planning double v brakes and im only 120 pounds?

Either will work great. I've used both brakes with good results, and many others have too.
If you have v's right now, keep them unless you're having problems. Even then, it doesn't take much money to make a v brake work great(assuming it's working poorly now?). New pads will do the trick in most cases. For best results, add a grind/booster.

grinded front rim with trials pads gives you huuuge stopping power. Its ridiculous. However, i prefer disc on the front because its so smooth fluid and not loud. And you can drag the brake when you're going down a hill or just want to stop/slow down when riding around.

grind your rear rim for sure.
Go with Avid BB7 up front with 183mm or bigger. It's good to have a powerful brake up front. Smooth rim is good for warm & dry weather. But if you're planning to ride in various conditions including weather change and live in an area that gets wet or have seasons, grinding the rear rim is probably the best way to go.

I always used front v-brake, now that I have a bb7 (got it about a month ago), I will never to back. Feels way better to me. It gives you a bit of modulation/control and is really smooth compared to v brakes. Some swear by v-brakes some swear by disc brakes, so its all what you like.

grind! yeah if anthing gets on your rims and theyre not grinded your brakes will suck.
id go with the disc brake up front because its nice having a brake that you can slow down with, without making a loud screeching noise and also having that extra modulation is really nice.

grinding is soo nice... cheap and effective method (and always prefered) versus anything. I also notice that if you get your rims wet with some sand involved in the process, it cleans off the rims, and makes the ornage/red pads stick like a mofo! great question, and good luck. BTW I have both and love 'em... I don't have a preference... use whatcha got maan
