ok it is, but this one's diferent... I swear.

The short version:

I have a lot of years on 20s and never really came to terms with mtbs, so I got this Zhi ZM3 off Donte with the plan of putting together some good parts and having a sweet bike to learn on. But, I kinda started looking at stocks and thinking about how I'm 6'1", 180# and 36yrs and that the geo of a mod is so far from a bmx that I'd still have a lot to learn.

Then this mint '04 ECHO Pure pops up on craigslist... it was sunny, I was bored, I bought it. http://observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=36152

And it's not so bad... I have 3ish days on it (it's been raining a lot). Day 2 sorted out track stands(kind of) and endos :eek3danc:. Day 3 sorted pedal kicks to the back wheel from a track stand (and more endos), can't stay up for long, but long enough to tell that the sweet spot is huge (same goes for the front). Aside from some problems with bunny hops and manuals, I feel pretty comfortable on the Pure. I've fit on a (much) steeper stem to try to get my weight back a bit, but haven't ridden yet to find out. I really feel like I shouldn't have much trouble nailing down the basics in pretty short order on this bike.

But, I still have this cute little mod frame hanging on my coat rack that continues to nag me. And I still kinda want to build it up and see what it's like. But, I fear that it'll be easier and more (instant) fun and that I'll lose interest in the stock, which is probably better suited to my size, age and trials aspirations. So, there's part of me that says to get rid of it and forget that mods even exist.

And finaly to the question:

What should I do?

What would you do?

your not going to ruin the fun of trials by using stock and mod at the same time. Build them both up and either you'll enjoy using both bikes for their different advantages or you'll just realize that one of the bikes better fits your style and then you can sell the one you don't use.

Mod bikes are more "instant" with certain moves but you'll find the same is true for certain moves with stock bikes.

i would just keep riding the pure until you stop improving, then think about building another bike

If the money isn't an issue, and it's just that your worried about liking the mod more (and possibly regret getting the stock), than clearly you should build it. What does which bike you ride have to do with your trials aspirations? Ride what you enjoy. Maybe that means switching back to the stock after you've had some instant fun. It's not like the work you put in on one bike won't pay off on the other.

If you are, however, afraid of wasting money on building another bike which you might not like, I'd say ride what you've got and hold onto the mod frame for later. Maybe you'll find someone who will let you test their mod to get an idea.
