I finally got a trials frame and swapped the build over to it and wow! What a difference a trials specific frame makes over trying to do it on a mountain frame! I got a good deal on a 07 Norco Evolve and it feels pretty good. Everything I know to do is much easier with the higher BB, shorter rear end, and longer wheelbase.

Here is my dillemma, I am thinking of making the switch to a mod bike and selling my newly built Evolve. I love the bike but it seems a little on the short side still and correct me if I'm wrong but a mod seems like it would be easier to learn on being that its smaller, lighter and more maneuverable.

Has anyone made the switch from a stock trials bike to a mod? What were your experiences? Like was it easier/harder? Let me know what you think as this is just an idea as of yet. Thanks in advance!

Mod needs more precision, it doesn't roll over shitty surface as well as 26" does and in the end it's harder to get up really high stuff on a mod than on a stock. On the plus side it's easier to throw around on natural terraion, sidehop etc.

If you've only started then I dunno ?

stock really is easier to learn on.

Alright. Maybe I just need to dial in my stock more and try different setups to get it where it feels real good. Thanks guys.

There are lots of good threads on this.

Both have their advantages. I think mod is easier to control and throw around so I prefer it, but stock rolls over stuff easier, and is better if you ride longer distances to riding spots.

Use the search function and you'll find lots of good info on this.

Here's a good thread with links to other good threads on the subject.

just a thought... if you think the stock feels short, a mod will probably be worse.

there are plus's on either side of the spectrum.
A mod is easier to throw around and i find balancing on skinnies and the rear wheel because the center of gravity is lower to the ground (dont quote me on that though).
Whereas with a stock bike it will be easier to get up by hooking or tapping and i like not having to do 2 milllion pedal strokes to get to the end of my street.

mod is easier to start on....

sometimes you never want to leave though....

That link above to the other threads was really helpful. I read up on the differences described on biketrials.com and am now just debating with myself. The reason I figured the mod would be easier to learn on is cause of the lower center of gravity. I think my stock feels so short cause of the big wheels and short frame that makes the wheel so close to my toes. With a mod it seems like their wheelbase is simillar to a small stock but with 3" more clearance to the tire?
