View Full Version : extremely noobish tire replacement question

soo what I am about to ask is the most nooooob question probly ever asked... :D sooo i just got a maxxis minion rear tire and because of the 2ply i am having a hell of a time trying to get it on the rim... any tips or advice to help me get it on there? thanx :dunno:

start at the valve and work your way around. bead one side at a time. if you have to use some soapy water but more muscle should be enough.

What rim are u putting it on?

if you have a rim like a try-all with the bend in the middle, make sure the bead of the tire is in the center of the rim as you put it on. using this technique, ive put michelin DH tires on rims with just my hands. and its the only way to get a motorcycle tire on.

dont get the cheap sette plastic ones. they say theyre heavy duty, but i snapped 2 trying to put a 2.7 highroller on a sun mammoth

I've had maybe 2-3 tires in the last 15 years of working in bike shops that I couldn't get on with just my hands. too easy to pinch the tube putting it on with tire levers.

lol thanx for the tips guys, i got the thing on same way ive gotten any other tire on just needed more muscle on the the levers... i bent my alex dx32 rim just a bit at one spot though.. that really pissed me off... and RUSH haha thanx, i dont remember where i found this avatar, funny as shittt though
