Also what are the rules for the type of clothing you have to wear?

JThe most important thing, which I still dont do is:

RELAX, BREATHE, Ride like you want to impress someone with how smooth you are.

Like Rush said, it is VERY important to relax and take your time. If you don't, you will be all over the place and dead tired 15 seconds into the section.

Don't be afraid to learn from others and don't be afraid to dab places that look difficult.

This tip was given to me before my first comp: If you do poorly on a section, don't let it get you down. Learn from your mistakes, but go on to the next section with a clear mind.

Most of all: Have fun.

Absolutely. Anyone that yells or throws bike or gets grumpy in a comp is instantly labelled a complete fucking tool.

Have a laugh.

Someone once told me to go all out the first loop. Try things the first loop that might be pushing you a bit, before just assuming that you have to strato dab everything right off the bat.

Have fun, Don't take everything too serious and be able to laugh at yourself, drink plenty of water, STRETCH before the comp!

don't put your foot down in the section. I know it sounds silly but I always practice "moves" which are not the objective.

if you dab, move your bike as far foward as possible before you get back on. also, keep moving, dont freeze up.

DON'T PANIC.
Just ignore all those people staring at you and judging your every move,
If you put your foot down try not to think of yourself as being a failure.
Don't think about how you will feel if your are not the best rider there.
Try not to think about elephants.

I'm just kidding, of course.

HAVE FUN and smile a lot, thats all.

Don't be afraid to learn from others and don't be afraid to dab places that look difficult.

That is if you want to get a better result.

if you want to become a better rider then don't stratodab.

edit: I always ace one section at a competition, and 5 all the others for a stupid reason.

its often better to use your "bad" foot when dabbing, keeping your "chocolate" foot on the bike.

keep loose, have fun, when you're choosing the class you'll ride in just remember they're all a bit harder than you think.

plan your section and watch others ride it before you do. if it's your first comp you'll learn a SHITLOAD from watching how other people do it/fuck it up. and you can see how the section looks with a bike in it because often you'll think of a good way to do a part of a section, but then get in there and your bike doesn't have enough room/there's something annoying in the way that you didn't see.

when you're trackstanding having a little rest in the middle of the section, BREATHE! and don't clamp your brakes on. use your brakes ONLY when you need to. or if you want, use all of your fingers to lightly hold on to your brake until you start to ride again. it will give your braking finger a needed rest.

Best advice in this thread. I still do this all the time after 4-5 years of steady competition.

If the comp is of anysize, Kenichi will be there. Find him, buy him more beer than he should be aloud and just sit back and be entertained.

Seriously (well, do buy Kenichi a beer for me anyway), find Kenichi....great guy and always willing to help.
