Running avid bb7's now. Just want to try the feel of hydraulic, the whole feel of it. What's popular? What's good? What's to much?

I just want power, and not heavy. ( who doesn't) And not start moving again. I would run a v in the back but I have no v brake on my frame (ellsworth specialist).

So, whats good?

let's assume no budget for now, so any suggestions are fine for now.

Magura HS 33s are the way to go.

ya if you can't afford hopes, dont even bother running a brake, because you're just going to ride worse:greddy2:

new louise is not bad if you get the right sized rotor. is this for the front or the back? im a little confused because you said you dont have disc mounts on your frame, but you can't run vees?

ah sorry. that was a typo. I ment to say that I didn't have v brake mounts.

I would get a set of brakes, so for both front and rear.

I read a few reviews on the hope brake that mentioned how the levers felt awfull, and you had to pull the lever way back before engagment.

truth?

Hope in the front if you want some modulation, Avid mechanical if you want instant locking power. Rear, it's really your choice, Magura or V's with good pads & setup. I run the Hope up front and like it a lot. I do like the Avid's also since they are cheap & pretty much maintenance free.

I love my Avid Code (rear). It isnt the lightest but works amazing. Up front i prefer the Hope Mono Trial. I rode a Juicy up front for a while and wasent a big fan of it.

I've seen both for $150 and up per end.

I rode Hope Trials front and Rear. I ran a 160mm rotor up front for a little more modulation (would still lock effortlessly) and a 203mm rear for even more grabbing power. It would lock with one finger but I could still modulate it. I started with an HS-33 and switching was the best move ever. I was interested in the Formula "The One" brake. Supposed to be insanely strong and pretty light, but I don't have ride experience on it.

Try all is the better choice~~

Save the money on brakes and buy a real frame?

Ummmmm...... right.

You do know that it is just a rebadged Hope Trial brake right? Oh, and that you can't get it anymore because Hope is no longer selling the brake to them and allowing them to put their name on it.... :momaru:

would any of the avids hydraulic disc brakes serve well as a front brake? example: code? or is the code a bit too heavy. would juicy 7's do the job?

The regular code would be amazing. It's got a ton of power, but I don't think you need to go to that "extreme". You can find a front brake that will do everything you need that weighs considerably less - i.e. marta sl.

My mate has a juicy 5 on the front of his pitbull. It feels like poos.

The Hope is as subtle as a stick in the wheel. *whack*

Love the feel of my XTR, wish it had a bit better lock up though. Perhaps with another disc...
