View Full Version : VIRIS "prototype" build

First off I'd like to thank Frank for this one. After like 3 years of riding trials this is actually the first new frame I have ever owned. The condition was to build something lightweight (overall build) and make it still rideable...I think it worked out quite well.
Overall weigth comes in slightly above 21lbs. And there is no doubt with lightweight tubes and lighter fork and single ply tires (aswell as other little bs things) I could have gotten it under 20 but I have to ride it, so I think this overall build works out perfect.
here for geo questions cuz i know they will come

I like this a lot more than the other frame by Frank. Is that the steel or Ti bash?

Mostlikely it is steel as they stopped making Ti a few years ago. If you take a closeup picture, tarty will clear it up as he used to sell both.
Great looking bike! I also prefer it to the normal VIris

Magnet doenst stick to mine neither. They are fairly old though

I'm loving the lack of paint on it. Not sure if I like this better than the WTF, but it is definately a good looker.
Let us know how it rides ;)

I had the 2.5 was close but when I would kick it would rub the cs. Swapped it to the 2.35 and there is plenty of room.
And i really love the look of it too

Control is still in one peice, sitting on my work bench.
Took it for a ride yesterday, freezing cold. Riding wasnt anything fantastic but that is to be expected after a few months off the bike. Even being on a new frame and all the time off, I was still more or less at what I was before, just a bit less consistent. I think im going to really like this thing.
Video next week...maybe

So ive given this bike a thorough testing and despite franks fears of this thing basically falling apart it is holding up very well.
Gone on a few rides now that the snow is gone, basically the first few rides of any season, for me anyways, are about relearning and seeing how shitty you are after the 5 month break from riding compared to when u were last on the bike. So the break coupled with a geo that I have never really tried was something I was a bit reluctant of getting into.
Regardless of all that time off the bike, getting back on this peice of equipment has been amazing for me. I dunno if i mentioned it earlier but this is the first new frame I have ever had, everything else had been used, not nescecarily beat to shit, but not "my" bike. So it was nice to finally pop the cherry, for lack of better terms, on MY new frame. Shes gotten scratched up a bit, dented a lil but still holding strong and in all honesty not too flimsy considering the lack of any machined parts.
Only complaint would be the rear end (wich i kinda expected) but its not anything I cant live with.
I wont really bother going into too much detail as this is kinda a one off frame its kinda more of a testimony to Frank and the quality of his product. I plan on taking a pic of some of these welds on here because thats one of the reasons this frame will stay raw cuz of the fact that u can see all the details.
In any case, if any one of you riders out there are looking to get yourself a FTW frame, I can assure you that you will be getting a hellova bike, and that its worth every penny.
Thanks again Frank
