I don't know who cares but here some pictures of my brand new Echo Pure. Many thanks to Marko Blau for building it.

It weights less or more 10.360 kg, but I want to bring it down to 10 kg (drilling some shit out of the rims should save up to 200 grams).

RB Design. The best lever I ever tried, amazing feeling, ergonomic and longer leverage compared to standard HS33 levers...the braking power iscreases quite a lot and needed force to block is lot less (really a lot less). Just a little expensive, around EUR 90 ($140) per lever, but one tried you'll never go back to Magura levers. :greddy:

Ah, I forgot to say the whole bike costet me 2650 swiss francs (EUR 1650, $2625)...quite a good price I think...thanks again to Marko Blau. :bigthumb:

such a pretty frame, its nice that you got some pics before it gets scratched up.

one more thing how do you like the singleator or whetever tensioner that is?

you're not going to save 200g drilling your rims

ptbo_mac
03-18-2008, 07:51 PM
looks like the rims are already drilled

About the rims there is still a lot you can drill. I'm out to enlarge rear rim holes (from 24mm to 29mm ?) and make some additional holes (6-8mm ?) near the spokes. On the front wheel I think I'll make squared holes using a file. Do you think it's not enough to save 200g?

The tensioner seems to work well but I have been riding this bike only for few days... We'll see.

Great looking bike! Same weight as my Czar!
If you change your tensioner for a 74kingz one and the headset for tensile Ace headset, you will shave an additional 100g!

Did you get the long or short pure frame?
Could you please measure precisely the wheelbase and let us know what it is?

I don't like 74kingz tensionr. How much it weights the Tensile headset?

Of course long.

Could you please measure precisely the wheelbase and let us know what it is?

No problem, I hope I'll remember to do it next time I'll ride my bike.

Just buy some lighter tyres!
Scwalbe Big Betty weighs about 500gr less then the Try-All rear tyre!

I know a Big Betty is only 800 grams or so, but I already gave it a try and didn't liked it so much: I love Try All sticky tyres. And I think just buying lighter tyres is actually cheating, I want to bring the weight above 10 kg without changing them. Hermance is using same tyres but his bike is a lot lighter than mine, so it's possible for sure to save more weight. :blah:

Edit: Anyway I have a nearly new Big Betty at home... If I'll not save enough weight working on rims and other parts I'll mount it. ;)

that looks really sweet!! but that chain tensioner sucks ass in my opinion. At least if you try to tighten the spring too much, then it'll go for permanent vacation! But otherwise really nice bike =)

I don't know...and actually I don't care. I just asked Marko to mount the first tensioner he was able to find. I have at home two or maybe three of this:

http://www.trialmarkt.de/media/singlespeed.jpg

I almost always used the tensioner above in the picture and I never had any problem.

Have you tried the tensioner I'm currently using? Because at first I thought it was simply shit, but after riding it for a couple of days I've absolutely no reason to complain.

Edit: Tomorrow I'll measure wheelbase and everything else, I swear...

BEagle

Yesterday I measured the wheelbase and it is exactly 1090 (with Echo Pure fork), as wrote in the specs on echobike.com. :bigthumb:

I had also the chance to replace some screws with alu and titanium ones... Saved 50 grams, not so much, but better that a kick in the ass. And in addition I started enlarging the front wheel holes, I made two holes in about 45 minutes...what a shit job (I also made a mistake and I enlarged too much one of them, I think I damaged the rim...we'll see).

The new weight is 10.300 kg. :coold:

Ya those tensioner will eventually fail unless you have tons of springs to replace. Not really designed for trials IMO.

Either way loving the bike!

Guys, you were right. The spring was too weak and I had to replace the it to have a proper tension. :hsugh:

Try maxxis ultralight inner tubes and try getting the holes in the rim to go square and by this you should get below 10 kg ;)
Nice bike, the RB design brake levers and B E A UTIFUL!

I started enlarging the holes to square on the front rim but...shit...it took me about 2 hours or so for 5 fucking holes. :ugh:

And thanks for tubes tip... I'll give them a try. :bigthumb:

My friend,
Don't be proud to try this little tool out:
http://www.made-in-china.com/image/2f0j00ICrQDfKqvYoHM/JIG-Saw-MT65-.jpg
It took me about 2 hours to get the whole rim ready and i even had to rasp it a bit ;)
Just simply cut an X into the whole and rasp the rest out! :bigthumb:

Are you kidding me or did you really used that tool on your rim? :eek3: Anyway I'm personally too wimp to try it.

Your bike is a lot like mine

Gold SL chain :coold:

The tryall is just a heavy version of the Big Betty in my opinion. They grip the same and flat the same amount. I've run both and ended up going back to the Schwalbe.

How are those bars?

I'am not kidding you ;)
I was too lazy to mess about for more than 2 hours and the final result was the same!
But see it for your self:

Do you know how much weight that took off it? Flex much?

Do you think Big Betty have same performance as Try All? Uhm... I don't think so, I used a Big Betty for a couple of months on my Adamant A1 and I found Try All are for sure better. Only Maxxis DHR can be compared to Try All (but Try All are still a bit grippier in my opinion). Anyway the point is that I'm not enough good at riding to really take advantage of using Try All tyres, but that's another story... :bigthumb:

I like a lot my steering setup, I always used flat or almost flat bars but with those bars I feel better. Just the stem is maybe a little bit too short, but there was no choice: it is the biggest one by Hope (I wanted a Hope because it's light and I know it's enough strong). :hsugh:

Just a question... But, you guys are really understanding what I write? I'm ashamed of my english... :(

BEagle

Holy shit Greg, you are just crazy. How long it took to make all those holes? Anyway, how much it weights the whole wheel? What tyres are they? And, last but not least, what are you using as rim tape? I'm looking for something very light but I've no idea of what to try.

I understand it perfectly fine. It's a lot better than what I hear out of a lot of Brits.

I will check the weight of the complete front wheel when I get home, the front tyre is 510 grams, but there are quite good Schwalbe front tyres in 2.25 width with 560g weight.
Mr.Big Bunny/Big Sidehop Braunschweig suggested to us using a simple duct tape as Rim tape cause there are the lightest kind.
How long? the holes were not drilled at the same time, they case from time to time, first the side wall, then the ones above that and finally the squares :P
I would suggest that shole drilling shit saved me about 150-200g.

Nooo! Don't use duct tape. It is so heavy.
Use packaging tape
