Hi,
I am new here so let me introduce myself briefly. I am a huge fan of Redlynx Trials games and I got to be a beta tester and forums moderator on the new Redlynx game: Trials 2 Second Edition. I am not on Redlynx's payroll, I just do this for my personal pleasure. I came here because I would like to hear the opinion of real Observed Trials enthusiasts on the game. Do you like it? How are the physics? What would you improve? etc... Enough chit-chat already, here's the good stuff:

You can also ask me anything here and I'll answer. Please let me know what you think.

I'll be honest, I played the latest 2D version of the trials game on miniclip and the graphics are much better but the ridiculous stunt like course isnt' really appealing. It's almost a mixture of moto-x & trials.

The 3D version looks cool though but I'd love to see a real dedicated trials course, not loops & stunts that doesn't really define trials.

Yes Aki, there are tracks that aren't realisticly portraying a Trials course but most of them do however. I particularly get what you say because I prefer those tracks myself, but most casual gamers seem to enjoy the fastest tracks more (maybe because the game is really hard to master, particularly if you don't have knowledge of Trials basics) But loops aren't common, rest assured. There is also tracks where the goal is to pull off flips or wheelies but there is very few of those as well.

I completed Trials Construction Yard with 0 points.
All levels in Mountain Heights also with 0 points.
Can't wait to beat this one.

I really like the idea of being able to gap to stacks of barrels that could potentially fall over.

One thing I think might be improved over past versions is that since the brake and reverse are the same button sometimes when gapping to front and the rider's center of gravity is ahead of the front wheel it will roll backwards. I don' t see a way of changing that and still keeping the controls as good as they are. So, seeing as there a lot of players who get quite good at these games, I think there should be an advanced option to allow for independent control of reverse and brakes, and possibly even separate front and rear brake controls. It could lead to allowing advanced players the ability to releasing the brake slightly after the throttle to get a quicker power transfer. This might make sequential hopping on the back wheel a bit more feasible too.

Nice critic Justtysen, I agree with you on this, let's hope it's in a future version.

I just uploaded a video of one of the more technical tracks in the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWbE71kLpvQ

This one is the hardest track, it's insane! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4P5hUzJRa0&feature=user

Graphically, it looks awesome. At full screen with all the lighting effects etc. on, its great.

As much as I'd love to see a mototrials sim, I know it wouldn't be nearly as popular as what you've made. I'm sure a lot of diehard trials guys would love to see an alternate physics simulation model which is more accurate to the real thing (which would probably also require more advanced controls), sometime down the track.

A couple of things I've observed in my short play test:
* There's still no collision model for the underside of the bike. The bashplate falls through obstacles when you go for hooks / bashplate landings, and it also allows absurd stuff like this to happen:
http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/redlynx1.JPG

* It is sometimes possible to prevent a crash when it shouldn't be. The biggest example of this is the 'standstill scratchie':
http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/redlynx2.JPG
It's possible on a trials bike to hold a rolling wheelie just past vertical by scraping the mud guard, but not at a standstill / rolling backwads. A similar thing occurs in certain crashes when you flip forwards in the air, and land on the front wheel and handlebar simultaneously, yet the 'crash' event isn't triggered.
From a physics point of view, what is lacking is that when a 'solid part' of the bike connects with the ground i.e. mudguard, undercarriage, handlebar, the rotation of the bike/rider should be affected based upon the position of the centre of mass relative to the collision point and the impact velocity.

* The rider injury stuff is quite novel, but you could make more use of it by forcing the player to re-start the level if the rider is killed or rendered unconscious, instead of going from the last checkpoint as per normal. If done correctly this would make the 'bail out' button non-redundant.

Good luck in your role with this game, hopefully some of this stuff is of some use to you, if you're more curious about the physics-related stuff let me know

Great post CriPPle, Those issues are all known by game devs by now, fixing them now would require to reset all highscores lists and world rankings so maybe in a future game.

If the physics in the miniclip 2d version are the same as those in the 3d version, I think you've taken a big step backward. I've played mtn. heights and construction yard for a long time. You can pull much more dynamic moves and articulate much more in these games. Trials 2 just feels like the same generic motorcycle games I've played for 2 mins and gotten bored

Am I confused here?

I posted the link to the demo for a reason, the 2d game has nothing to do with the 3D one. Even the mountain heights flash demo did NOT have the same physics as the full game.

this is a good game
hard though.. you need to be a lot more precise with movements in this version

The upper levels are much more difficult and require more realistic aproaches compared the the flat out race in the lower levels.

It isn't very realistic at times, but it is still a blast to play. I have several top 25 records and a few in and around the top 10. The new replay and ratings is great.

I learned some of the cheats, but also some good aproaches to the more challenging sections.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm glad most of you apreciate the game. The most difficult thing for Redlynx devs is to make the game appealing to real Trials fans as well as casual gamers.

That will always be a great difficulty.

The best way to pull it off would be to use the same core game engine, same graphics etc., but two different physics engines, and two different control schemes. Call it "Hardcore Mode" :Sonic:. Because an arcade game will never completely satisfy true Trials fans, and a simulation will be too frustrating for most players.

As awesome as it would be, it would be a large outlay for Redlynx for a relatively small gain. But we all have our fingers crossed.:bigthumb:

In the meantime, it is a great game, don't take my replies as anything other than constructive.:h5:

One thing I almost expected as I started on the new game was a user edited track option. It would be great to be able to stack and make new sections from all the new elements.

I know some car racing games have options like this that make the handling more realistic and extremely difficult. I've never been that those I've played but it didn't bother me that there were advanced options for the dedicated players.

The developers really wish to release a level editor at some point, but their focus is polishing the game and adding some more levels first. I can't wait for user created levels :)

Trials 2 SE has a built-in automatic update downloader, so each time you start it, it checks for new content so no need to download a new version everytime. New levels should be added on a regular basis and the next level should be a dynamic one, there's lots of demand for more dynamic tracks.

Sounds great. Really looking forward to the continued development. Such a fun game.

Side note: I finally got a clean on the Hard 5 section. That took me forever compared to the other levels.

:eek3: @ Chader: are you "Lowlogic" in-game? Only 2 guys from USA cleared Hard-5, and I had a chat with the other one... In the first edition, the first guy who cleared that track without any faults was sent a case of beer by the developers. Now that the second edition is out, Hard-6 and Hard-8 are way tougher than Hard-5.

Just this instant I had a "good" time beating mrT's run on Hard-5 (doing this wasn't much fun by the way, it was painful lol)) , I think he'll beat me back soon but I enjoy my time in the spotlight in the meantime. This guys is seriously a menace to my title :eek3:

Not sure about the "low-logic". Is that a setting in the regular Trials 2?
I have several high rated sections, 14th in Hard 5, 9th in Med 3, 10th in Med 1. I seem to get bumped a spot or two every week, but it is cool getting that high in the rankings.

I didn't realize the SE was already released. I will get that tonight and have a go at it.

Hey. I'm Lowlogic :)

I love the updated game. The controls definitley feel tighter than the first trials 2 version. The Dynamic courses are by far my favorite and I cant wait to see more of them, if they are planning on releasing more content updates. From a lasting appeal standpoint, the achievment icons are a very nice touch that add a bit more variety to playing style.

All around, this game is fabulous but I do notice a couple odd things during play. First, there is a rubber-band effect with the front wheel sometimes, where it will get stuck behind an object causing the fork to stretch about double its length. The other thing i believe has been mentioned before, but for the sake of constuctive criticism I think the front end of the bike needs to be tweaked a bit to disallow endo-ing to your handlebars.
