So after being off the bike for a couple of months, I finally decide to get my (now) fat ass outside to go and ride my bike. Halfway through, my mp3 player runs out of batteries, so I pack it up and am forced to continue riding the remainder of my day linkin park-less. Only then do I realize that there is this really weird jingling sound coming from the bb area. Looking downwards, I am delighted to see a ring of metal bouncing around between my bb and cranks and I think to myself, "Oh great, my freewheel cap has come undone again."

But wait. I got one of them new fancy freewheels that have the caps pushing up against the crank/bashguard, so what gives?

Turns out my bb gives

Anyone ever have a similar experience?

Yeah, I feel exactly the same way about this stuff, I just felt it was a really weird way for a bottom bracket to break.

that happened to one of mine too. I just stuck it back on with blue-tack so it didn't rattle, rode it for another few months. Canadian pussy :)

the tool splines go right into the cup. He'll be able to get it out fine, especially now without the force of the face resisting the turning.

braking bb`s are common, ive destroyed lots of bearings on tryall , ive nearly broken my foot when a different brand bb snapped in my trahd vid, neil tunnicliffe broke his ankle by a bb brake.

Just get a new one .

but i still only trust tryall ! bearings can be changed , but the axle never brakes ! so you wont hurt your foot.

I made a stem for a bong out of my FSA ISIS axle that was left over after I had to beat it out of my brand new Czar mod frame after the splines gave up.

edit: I didn't find the crankbolts that go to an fsa isis BB and wanted to take it out, the tool splines gave up and finally I had to beat the axle out of the cups and hacksaw the cups out. Fucked up shit to do to a brand new frame.

Was it a Viz bb? It almost happened to my viz bb, the crack was pretty much 360 degrees.

Did that to a truvativ bb, had to hammer it round with a chisel to loosen it.

TRA where can I get said bearings? I went to some bearing places near my work and they say it is not a standard size!! :(

This just happened to my FSA bottom bracket cup (unfaced bottom bracket). At first I thought I'd need a new bottom bracket, or at least a new cup if I could find one.

Then:
I hand threaded the damaged cup into the bottom bracket shell to the proper depth. The remaining shallow spline edges were enough to turn the cup gently. I tightened the bottom bracket and the fixed cup against it. The opposing thread directions allows things to be tightened snugly without putting force on the damaged splines.

Haven't ridden it yet, but it should be fine. There have been some bottom brackets don't even have the flange. All it really does is set the cup to the correct depth and simplify installation.
