He's no TRA but then again not many are :Sonic: , but Mike is a very seasoned rider and is very technically sound, he's somewhat old school so you're not going to see huge UCI style moves from him, though I've seen him make some gaps at the "Belle" that we're quite "LARGE"!!
And yes, Mike is able to ride trials as a means of income which is rare in this country.
Cool little vid too......
Cool vid. Nice moves.
Didnt Mike used to ride bigger on his Brisa?

Yeah when he rips off his sponsors,,, must be nice to have a BMW X5 and rely on trials as an income.

I think there needs to be a distinction made between ELITE riders and PRO riders.
An Elite riders is a top competitor or someone who is doing things at the upper end of the performance spectrum. They ride to achieve excellence and respect in a given discipline.
A Pro rider gets paid to ride his bike. The focus and purpose of the riding is to generate exposure and marketing value to a company he represents.
That being said, there are certainly pro riders who are very good. I am also sure that some elite riders get paid for their efforts. The two can overlap, but you will generally make more money doing shows for an outside the industry,(particularly the trials industry) company than doing competitions.
Mike is trying to do a little of both and is managing to be pretty successful. I think this is a good thing and should be respected for what it is. He is definitely a very good rider.

"didnt like this video

I remember going to Warped Tour and seeing Aaron Lutze and Dan Drain pretend that they were Mike... basically doing ever move with their bikes as vertical as possible. He has skill... but his style does nothing for me.

glad to hear everyone enjoyed it
Lance is real on point on this one. Is soemone really catching shit for getting paid to ride and filming a free internet video over the course of 2 days? Outstanding.

lanceT is right : as a manufacturer, I would like to sponsor someone who is good ( good enough for my target of customer : the ones who don't have a bike or have a standard mtb !! ) and who works as often as necessary.
Another point is that he must have a good contact with people
Another good points is that a pro represents the stuff, even if it is not good.
matching all those points, there is ryan leech !! he is even a excellent rider !
Edit : i watched the vid : mike is good ! nervous style , that's the point we are not used to

I have known and ridden with Mike off and since I met him at my first EFTA back in 97'.The guy has busted his balls to get where he is and Mike can be about Mike at times..so can other pros I know of as well.He is one of the very few pros in the USA, who make a living at riding and we're coming down on him for his riding style. His style is different,it is his own style.I have a nice car,it's not a BMW X5, that cars on the list.I have seen Mike shred lines out in Boston and till this day,I've yet to see someone do the same.He is doing what we all wanted to do,get a REAL sponsor. Not a deal sponsor,he is living the trials dream.
Before you come down on the guy, make sure your better than he is.This is someone whos been the trials game for close to two decades, gotta respect him for that.

Plus he wears fancier shirts than most everyone on this site...
Like the rest of us Mike's got good and bad points. Whenever we were just chillin' riding bikes he's a good guy and rides crazy good. I would like to say I made a living riding bikes at some point and he's done that so props to him on that one.

ok, he is a good rider. his style is not everyones favorite, i would say.
but to be serious. if he got his vw touareg because of his bike riding, i definitely should have one or two of these and many others too ...
he`s good, but not good enough for getting a touareg or something

What people don't get, it's not about being the best..it's more than that.ie..Jeff Lenosky, in my eyes is one of the best over all riders out there and he has some serious business skills to go with it.It's about exposure, are you going to get there name out there and Mike does just that.If it were based on skill alone, than my buddy Brian Yierziski(Pro) should be driving around a porsche. It's all about marketing yourself to the company and making them believe in you.
Mike has done that apparently and now he drives an X5 BMW.There are riders who are always going to be better than you,the riding is the easy part, when it comes to getting sponsors..it's all about the marketing.

The video was OK. Sorry, but it was just OK.
As for Bobby's last comment on getting sponsors- Steidley will do what ever it takes to get ahead and be 'on top', even if it means lying, cheating, and/or stealing.
Sure, it's awesome that he can get paid to ride his bike everyday. We'd all love to do that. But, sometimes it's more important to get to that point with at least a little honor.

Looks like a pretty standard video... short and to the point. I guess his thing is to do "lines" instead of just one big move. Having ridden with him a bunch, he rides differently when practicing... this is just his video riding. I'd like to see more of his natural riding on video cuz he finds crazy lines and it puts most of his urban riding to shame.

Don't talk with me about Mike and his sponsorship skills, he FUCKED me and my company over big time when I stuck my neck out for him. And what pisses me off is he told me he is a poor trials rider and couldn't afford to pay me his debt, but then he drives an X5.... I call bull SHIT!!!
He is a disgrace to the trials industries bottom line… I don’t care about his riding style!:luke:

Yeah sure, thats why no one should criticize music, movies, food etc unless they can do it better :luke: ?
I dont like his style, its my oppinon. I dont care if he is the godfather of trials or not. Its not like i said he sucks. He rides waaaay better than me, still, i dislike his riding style.

Steidley was getting by for a long time and has started to do other things to take care of himself and live the way he wants to. I like Mike. A lot of what he does makes me laugh and I'm sure he feels the same about me, but in the end he is a damn good guy and has brought trials to more people than almost anyone posting on this thread.

Wow...What is happening here. I've ridden with Mike on a few occasions and competed with him back in the day, but I never got a rip-off vibe from him. He seems like a good, friendly guy.
Everyone's riding style is different. If you can side hop 4 feet then what is the big deal on bike and body position. Yes there are right and wrong ways to ride, but come on. Mike has a fun streety style. Not a hack style.

also... can we have another mass mayhem vid please? i love that shit.
btw, i liked the riding.. music was painful but thats my opinion.
