View Full Version : Ray Ideas for Feb..

Ray has asked Mike Steidley and myself to get together and help dial in the event.I'd like to hear people's input, feel free to add anything you'd like to see there.Hopefully, if this event goes well and Rays MTB is still in one piece after, he'll be more inclined to host our events there more often.Try to stay away from the OTN comments, even though sometimes there funny. There's not going to be any naked woman there, not that I know of anyway...lol

throw it down..:luke:

Don't rope me into any mixed feelings about Mike, we go back and he knows how to set up a bike event. Ray most likely has a lot of trials stuff stored some where and Tim Williamson has offered up his boxes as well. Any ideas for stuff to ride on, throw it down..

Shooting for the 3rd or 4th weekend in February and the weekend is a must for most...including myself.I would like it to be for Friday and Saturday and give people Sunday to drive, or fly back home..

The third weekend works for me, we'll shoot for that.I still don't know what Mike has worked out on his end, so we're still working it out.

There probably is are still a few boxes in the back corner but not as many as you will need for a comp. Rays web site says Monday, knowing Ray he's not going to let trials riders take over his park on a busy weekend, the locals tryed that already. Sounds like Ray is being very generous with his park, good luck with the date.

If it's on a Monday the chances I can go are slim

First of all, this isn't going to be a comp,it's just going to be a fun ride type deal.Rays Mtb is huge, we don't need the entire place to ride for trials. We just need some space to ride and he won't have to close his place down to the public. If it's not held on the weekend, then this is going to be a waste of my time and everyone who's trying to make this work.

See if he will let you take over part of the beginner section maybe and add things for the day or two. When I was there last weekend there were a couple people in there every now and then but most of the time it was a ghost town...

If its not going to be a comp or a speed trials comp, then just get as many obstacles in there that you can, especially since Ray doesn't want any damage (understandably) to the walls, ledges, etc etc.

I would think there should be some sort of a small comp. Have it be a big group ride most of the time but competition can be fun....

Comps can be fun, Ray doesn't want any comps though. Right now, were just shooting to have a couple of fun ride days.

I heard mention of a points system that can allow an open ride to have prizes for accomplishing certain tasks. Possibilities?

Guys just tpy in your address and Rays in google maps and it will tell you. I'm guessing about an 6-8hr drive, my drive is 13 hrs, not flying this year.

ITs about 8-9 hours for me. I don't know if I will make it to this as it would be my 3rd trip there this year and I won't even have a trials bike together. I might make an appearance though...

map quest say 9 hours could prolly do it in 7 which i wouldnt have a problem with. Id like to know really how many people would be going...if other Canucks would be going down aswell (been since shawi sice we rode together Kai).

Also as far as riding is concerned what we would be looking at, I dont have another bike ATM so unless someone else would mind lending while im there (which im sure wouldnt be toooooo much of a big deal) but if im gonna be driving 9 hours id like to hope there is SOME decent obstacles

There were litterally only a handful of trials riders showing up occasionally I believe. Now yeah.... you can say more would come if there was a bigger section or you can say they didn't deserve a section because they weren't coming. Either way it was BMXers and the freeride/jump MTB crew that was filling the place so that's where the space went. Sucks for trials but with a business that I imagine makes just enough to stay open, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think its cool Ray is willing to help host any sort of a trials event.

I'm still going to come up there and ride with my buddy. If anyone else is down to ride a bit out there, throw it down. I went last year and it was still a fun time, even though there wasn't a lot of trials stuff to ride on.Ray doesn't want to close down any part of his park, during the weekend...maybe in time, we'll be able to work something out.

Sorry guys, I really tried my best to make this work.

If Ray see's interest like this we may be able to have a large trials area again. When we had prime real estate, knowbody came. Now we have a little corner and everyone wants to come.

I still say try to take over the beginner room. That place is useless. I could ride it on a big wheel.

Thats where we do most of our riding. You'd be suprised how often that get ridden. It actually a big hit at the park for new riders.

Really!?! When I was there I would stop by it every now and then. The most I saw in there was 4 riders and it wasn't for very long. The park was BUSY and there were times there was no one in there. Maybe it was a weird day....

giventofly

Ok.

Here's the deal. The REAL deal. No speculation. No BS

There will be no event at Ray's MTB this year. The offer has been made to the people in contact with the park to have the park open all day on Monday, President's Day for TRIALS ONLY. A monday rental normally costs upwards of $200-400 for 4 hours. The trials community was offered a 10 hour rental for $ZERO upfront. We would have had to pay an admission fee only. We would have been able to ride anything in the park in any way we would have liked. Set up sections, strung tape, had races, strippers....whatever.

This offer was met negatively.

I am posting to let the community know that you are all welcome to come to Cleveland any time to ride at Ray's Indoor MTB. The admission fees are clearly posted on the park's website. HOWEVER....all riders regardless of sport, genre or background will be expected to follow the park's rules. The park's rules specifically indicate that no one is to ride any of the lines backwards, sideways or in any way that might damage the park or negatively impact another rider's experience. "No Riding Trails Backwards" signs are posted in multiple locations around the park, and are enforced. These rules are in place for the protection of all riders on the property.

Now, quite frankly, with this in place, there is not very much fun to be had on a trials bike. If we rent the park, the park is ours. we have free reign of the place. During open session, this is not and will not be the case.

Anyone who has ever been on a group ride knows how things get. We session. We stand in one place, and try and try again until somebody makes a line...then everybody else has to try it. For the 100 paying customers on any given sunday, our presence would destroy the flow of the park.

The bottom line is, Ray's is a business, and quite frankly, the numbers simply don't add up. If 20 guys from OTN show up and piss off 60 XC riders that are there every weekend, that's bad business. Ray's has always been supportive of the trials community. Unfortunately, from a financial standpoint, the trials community has not been supportive of Ray's.

Sorry.

We just need a different venue. If people know of an event that could be interested in a trials section, I'm sure organizers will step forward. If we want it to be good, it won't be just an arena, but attached to an event with exposure.
