Ok, Since trials is dead at Rays MTB park. I'd like to see who is interested in a speed trials event at RAYS. It will seperate the boys from the men and be a more action packed MOTORAMA Replacement.

post if your interested

Sounds like a good idea, but I think it would have to go through the big Lenosky first. He is the unofficially official course builder for anything incorporating speed and trials into one cohesive entity.

Also, it would probably not have too much to do with trials because as far as I know there aren't any actual trials obstacles at Ray's anymore. It would end up being a north shore race of sorts on the ladder bridges and whatnot, and not particularly suited to modern trials bikes.

I could be woefully misinformed though, so make of that what you will.

No, Your right Lance.....It would not be suited for a trials bike. More for "park" bikes. There isn't any trials right now. There maaaay be some thing in the works.......

Sounds tempting. I'm sure I, for one, could come up with a bike suitable for whatever.

:bigthumb:

Let us know.

True True.... Definately more of a park bike event. Supposedly Something is in the works for an event at Rays so I guess we shall See.

I would actually like to see a speed trials event that is requires legit trials moves, like some of the events they have overseas, rather than a "speed trials" event that turns into freeride. It just seems like any time someone comes up with this idea, it evolves into freeriding. Not that thats a bad thing, 'cause those events do draw attention to mountain biking in general, but just not trials.

Now that I'm thinking about it a bit more, Ray's probably isn't all that conducive to a real speed trials event. There's not a lot of room, unless you put obstacles between the ramps on the outer loop. Gary, I'll do what I can to help you set this up either at Rays or elsewhere...just let me know.

Sort of off topic, but I'll bring it up anyway. I've always liked the idea of a contest where there are a ton of obstacles in one large section and you just have a half hour or hour session where everyone goes out and tries to pull the biggest, smoothest, most creative lines. I know they do it with skateboarding, and I'm wondering if it would translate well to trials.

Ray and I have been emailing one another back and forth for a while now about having a trials day at Rays. He's told me in many of his emails, he doesn't want to have any type of triasl comp there, he wants some kind of open trials day. He's still in the midst of dialiing things in and when I have all the information and how Ray wants to play this out, I'll make a post.If this is can get off the ground, maybe Ray's can turn into the next motorama. But without the comp feel and just a fun ride feel.

There have been a number of redbull battles now. Brisa used to have a list of rules on their site for running what I think they called a "free trials" event that involved riders riding and being scored by judges in categories. I think last year or the year before somebody did something like this in BC. It would open the competition up to a diverse asortment of riders and they could use any obstacles or ramps they wanted. I think it's a great idea personally.

I actually was at Rays last week and Ray has asked me to help him get a trials day there. Basically it would be a day where we could ride the lines whichever way we like and not have to worry about being creamed by a bmx going 30mph or an XC guy getting mad about us hopping around. Some of the OH guys have offered to help with this too.

There would be a bunch of door prizes/raffle type stuff, free lunch and then a party after. Ray and I have started to make an outline of everything already. There also would be a discount at the local hotel for any of the participants. All this would be for around the same price as regular admission and we would have a Feb. date to all get together and ride.

Sound good to anybody? Let's hear the thoughts and if there is strong interest I'll talk more with Ray and get this off the ground.

Yes...provided that we all follow the rules during the "non trials" hours. (ie: when the park is normally open)

I will have an announcement about this in the next 5 days.

Motorama was around the 3rd week of February and I was pushing for that time.I work and go to school, so I am assuming most do one or both and would need it to be on a weekend.

Concerning obstacles, perhaps if some of the guys on the board who are going could bring some stuff? I still have access to some big stuff, but I'm looking at 8 hours + driving, so I don't think I'll be able to bring anything, but somebody closer perhaps?
