That was a great time --thanks for organizing and running it, Mark! And thanks for taking the heat when the Parks and Rec guys showed up. I keep thinking about how they drove their 6000 pound 4x4 truck all over the place to come talk to us about perhaps damaging some of the lichen on the rocks. It occurred to me that, if they are so concerned about the environment, perhaps they should have walked the 1/2 mile from the trail head out to where we were.

It also occurred to me that Douglas County could have just as easily had the area zoned residential or commercial and developed the whole thing. I'm very happy they didn't, but I'm pretty sure they didn't leave it as open space just to save the lichen. I'm very much pro-planet (particularly since we don't seem to have many choices -- Earth is pretty much it), but our riding on rocks and killing a little lichen isn't the cause of global warming.

Anyway, good times for sure! After 5ing the first two sections, I kind of got my act together and stayed on the pedals a little better. It was great to watch the Experts on the gnarly stuff. Wow. Mad skillz fo sho! "Nicely done!" to all who rode the Expert sections!

I'll upload some random clips and Phils kicker up when I'm not lazy.

EDIT: Phils kicker....the quality is so garbage I don't even know why I'm bothering. Needless to say more won't be following.

The video doesn't do the kicker-up justice. It looked really severe -- kicker was straight up, he was clearing some pretty gnarly terrain, as you can see from Rob standing there the kicker was chest-high and then the idea was to go over head-high. Cole made a few valiant attempts and Mike came so close to making it that is it hurt to watch him go back down. I didn't see anyone else try it.

I think the "negative" line should be called "Insanity Ridge".

The parks guys that busted us in the end were cool, said we can have another comp as long as I go threw the proper channels and get then envolved. I think a horse person ratted us out because we dared to have a good time jumping over the mess there horses make on the trail.

Cole ampen Phil up for funzies- pretty funny. Also, really listen to how smooth philths riding is. The landing..... oh so quiet.
I came pretty close to making it. I needed another 10 minutes max. Cole almost lost some teeth a couple times.

Phil missing a sidehop. Sorry about the angle, I dont have any video editing software.

Here are some shots

ok, this is bullshit. OTN has some conflict with picasa web albums.
When I make my post and post the link the photo appears. I click preview post and then no picture. Ive tried many diffrent link options.

Ill upload a few to flickr, since I know those work.

Hidden Mesa Open Space on the corner of Parker Rd. and Franktown Rd. It might technically be in Castle Rock and right on the border with Parker.

One last thought on the rangers -- yes, they were pretty cool. They could have taken names and driver's license numbers and given us lectures (all of which occurred to me and friends after a mtb ride at White Ranch after which we stayed in the parking lot too late). They didn't, they asked a lot of questions and checked out what were doing and pretty much gave us the okay to ride there. I guess the discussion of rubbing lichen off rocks kind of bugged me. It is a public park, not a lichen preserve. Douglas County is preserving open space for the public. Lichen is not an endangered species. We were not destroying the area or making it any less enjoyable for anyone else. We spilled very little blood and left it as we found it. As far as I know, we didn't even leave organic waste behind (which the horses did). I just kind of feel the world has plenty of lichen. We're restoring balance. We are lichen's natural predators. Yeah, that's it! We are a necessary part of the eco-system -- without us, lichen would grow out of control!

I'm glad the rangers are open to the idea of another comp there. And it is reasonable to have us sign liability waivers.

So much cool terrain at that place! And it was cool to see so many riders. Definitely some creativity on display.

I want to ride there w/o the pressures of a comp so bad. I know what you mean, Mark. I feel like I could ride there until I collapsed. Something I need to do anyway, apparently.

Yeah, it looked like you would have died had you slipped (not that anybody believed you would have slipped). I think we would have had trouble catching you though as tall as that rock was. That line was INSANE!! Nicely done.

Let me know if you want the orignal's too. Their about 4 times as big and clear.

Peter, things are going really well. Julien is in Cali doing some work with his uncle doing airplane repair of some sort. He is expected back Dec. 13th I think. We all miss the crazy Caribian.

Calvin, Julien wont let me pass on the video... hes strange like that. He dosent feel its good enough. And its pretty amazing video he's calling "trials is not dead" I'll get it out of him one of these days.
