View Full Version : customs can go suck a fat one
ordered bars from OS, didnt turn up when they said it should (week and a half ago), talk to some guy at the store, turn outs its in customs, call customs, they say its at the post office, call the post office. they say its at customs, store refuses to claim responsiblity, customs has no fucking clue and nether does the post office.

something of that little value really shouldn't be stuck in customs.... unless they suspecty its full of drugs or organic material... still you should be able to find out where it is. Dont be angry at the shop you bought it off, there is really nothing they can do. unless they addressed it wrong or filled out the customs dec. form wrong.
Peace
nah thanks gaz flat bars are for gays :riaa:
yeah i guess i just gotta wait...
its still very annoying though....

yeah, we ship a fair amount of international stuff, and a pretty significant percentage gets hung up. and like you said, USPS and customs love to point fingers at each other. often when i call USPS first, they say "it's probably stuck in customs" before i even give the tracking number. and USPS tracking is shit, so they're typically guessing unless the customer bought express shipping. it's INCREDIBLY frustrating for a business to deal with.

werd. then taking all the stuff into your local bike shop and asking them to put it together for you...
This is one of the risks you run. It ain't free money savings when you buy stuff that way...

buying off the internet is fine for ppl who know how to put the parts together and arent too concerned with occasionally gettin customs related problems.
considering how few trials products/brands are available from bike shops in oz, i think its not a bad option. But if you dont have the know-how to install the parts u have bought online.. be prepared to pay a lbs mechanic and thank them for their time (never had to myself... but iv been on the recieving end of customers who buy shit online and then want me to install it).
Customs is generally a percentage of the total value (including freight). Iv paid over 6grand once (thanks to customs, custom clearance, and the hireing of a customs agent!) and thanks to deng for sending echo shipment to sydney instead of brisbane and incurring holding costs aswell.
anyhoo... just my 2c :)

Customer "What? You're going to charge me $200 in labour to put together these parts that I didn't even buy off you? Why should I?"
Me "Don't like the price? Buy the tools and do it yourself then :wuteva: "

Ha ha that's what I do, if you can't put a pushbike together you got to be a retard! figured that one out a long time ago.

lol... there is putting a bike together and then there is putting a bike together properly!!
BIG difference
Most ppl who work in bikeshops will av seen at some stage a kmart bike or some chinese no name bike that a customer has bought online and put together. Normally with cables too long and twisting all over the place, gears meshing, sometimes stems on upside down etc etc.
For trials bikes its simpler yes. But, there is stil a proper way and i doubt many ppl will know the right way. ie greasing threads, lubing cables, not overtightening bolts, correct installation of brakes n headsets etc. tightening cones, and generally setting the bike up so its safe and works at its best.
admittedly if u buy a part like a stem or something its pretty simple and the average joe should be able to put it on (without crushing a headset! lol).

customs fees, import taxes and all that are revenue systems in place of the sales taxes and now GST that the australian state and national governments miss out on when you buy stuff from OS. They have an obligation to Australian businesses and to their own tax revenue. It's not unreasonable really. But having said that, I do try to weasel out of customs charges too...
- Joel
You bloody weasel. :squint:
Am I going to see you in January? Recommend me a cheap ass motel near to Stromlo? Are you going to ride? Will Dre be there? Will anyone else be there? Will Kheifets have drugs?

sorrry to go off topic a littlle, but the other day I was on my way to work and I saw this guy riding down the road as I was coming out of my street. For some reason I looked at his bike and thought... there is something not right there. As I looked at his bike I saw that the disc was on the right side of his forks with the calaper mounted on the front right too! i thought WTF! how can you end up putting forks on backwards!
As I was riding past this guy I said "hey mate... you do know that your forks are on back to front??" he replyed... "Are you sreious? someone must be playing games!" I thought I should just leave and rode off!
Fucking funny shit! Made my day!

customs, fuck them
a few years ago, i bought my bike from new zealand

I bought 2 bikes new from Back home (NZ)
All I did was got the shop guy to go ride the bike in a bit of dirt.
That way customs cannot slap charges on you for a new Bike coz It is not new anymore.
Also did that with a laptop from japan
Got my mate in japan to open the box up
Take out the laptop pop off one of the KB keys slip the key into a Envolope then put it all back into the box.
Laptop cant be new if it is damaged and original Packageing is not used.
Screw customs..
