Mono Trial = (IMO) Shit

I had one for over a year and it was initially very good, but the caliper is CNC'd from a billet and just ended up really flexy.... I know a lot of other guys that have had problems with them too....

BB7s really are a great brake

hey BSA !
they do flex!! have u ridden them? They all flex!!!
If u dont believe us.. go do a search in trials chat on just about any forum and youll find ppl complaining about how the caliper actually flexes out wen the brake is pulled on. Thats wot gives em that loverly spongey shit feeling.

XTR and Juicy Ultimate calipers are one piece and they are great. That is because they are FORGED and THEN CNC'D, making them very strong and durable and flex free....

In an effort to save cost, Hope have CNC'd their calipers out of a straight billet, no forging, which looks nice, and is good for a short term, but in the long run they end up flexy, with no lever feel.

The best brakes for trials use are things that are two piuece and bolted together, because bolts are as stiff as fuck.....

Don't get Hope Mono brakes.....

So now that everyone has bagged the shit out of hope monotrial brakes - I have a one year old front right hand lever with 160 rotor in good condition for sale, its been good, but I wanted to change to a simpler setup - and hence now have a BB7, which I am not very happy with:( but at least they're cheap.
If you want buy I sell for $150.

Hmmm that went downhill fast... anyhow...

I'll do one of my rear mono trials for $150 as well to make a set. New pads in it too.

wowzers that caused abit of a stir, think i will have to try a few more brakes out and see what i like.

I have had 2 sets of Dice/Armour brakes over the years and never had a problem besides cracking one of the brackets on the rear, I know they are a cheap brake but personally the best brake i have ever riden. I like a very solid lever and a brake that doesnt slip, although they dont have much modulation it doesnt bother me as all i ride is man made obstacles and just want the confidence that the brake is going to lock solid.
They work great no matter what condition, and when wet actually work better.

But after all that was considering a change so will have to get out there and try some more brakes thanks guys

I'll have to agree with the non forging build for Hope, BUT they DO feel AWESOME when they work

In the end, I thought the flex would've (and most likely) started in the hose itself but who knows....that's my thought

And my GOD Jack, I totally forgot you still ran Dice Brakes...those brakes...are probably one of the 'worst' things around...I guess if you've tried anything else, it'd be 10x better:wiggle:

We're planning a 'mega' Brisbane City South Bank ride this Sunday, so tag along, I'm pretty certain that almost everyone is coming out for a spin!

Its not the feel that concerns me, its the fact that the stationary pad unscrews itself every 5 minutes. But good call on the linear slic kable - I'm using the standard shimano one now and its gay.

Well that's a shame you can't make it to this Sunday ride, but yeah in BRISSY we still 90% do the Wednesday night rides..

As for the Gold Coast Wednesday Night rides i'm not sure on that....You may have to get in touch with Tim

But yeah, when you're up here on a weekend, give me a yell, we're always riding on Sunday arvo's:riaa:

hey mate
maybe ask ak. i know hes runnin bb7s now too and probly has a solution to the unscrewing pad. Im gettin a set of em 08 bb7s too.

Linear slick is good but can pull thru where u cut it. (the outter strips of metal gradually pull through the plastic - mtb vees more powerful then bmx brakes). If u can find it get some XTR GEAR outer in 1.5 size. much stronger and a higher resistance to pull through of the outter wires. Even less compression too. I use this now after years of linear..

let us know bout the bb7 problem.. cheers dan
