I'm planning on it, won't be there at 10, though. Probably by 11.
Easy sections for the Novice/Sport would be appreciated! I 5'ed all but one section at Phil's and took a hard trip over the bars just to be sure it was a memorable experience. There were lots of 5's at Phil's so, maybe take that into account. It was great, though, I enjoy competing!
Tape is easy to remove, chalk disappears quickly, but paint should be used sparingly if at all unless you have some kind of disappears-in-24-hours paint. People will undoubtedly come by while we're riding, note our activities and location, and will realize we did it if there's paint left afterwards. That might ruffle the feathers of some other trail users. Just my $.02.
I'm looking forward to it!

The paint-chalk debate is well noted. This comp is being held on the DL with no offical permission from the parks department. I don't see a problem with this as I ride there all the time, have never seen a park ranger, rarely see other people, the park is kinda in the middel of nothing and even the horse people are cool. Better to beg for forgivness than ask for permission on this one.
Right now the forcast calls for dry and 61 degrees.
A big effort will be made to make the sections more beginner and sport friendly, some of the sections at Phills comp were out of controll hard.

I'd be happy to give you a ride, could pick you up at 10am, can take you back, let me know if that is of interest. Would also be happy to spring for pizza. I like anything without sausage or spicy. Or little fishies. Other than that, anything - hamburger, pepperoni, maters, pineapple, C-bacon -- I love it all.

Turns out an 18-12 on a mod is less gear inches than a 22-18 on a stock.

Friendly reminder for those new to Hidden Mesa, bring tubes and patches and a pump as there is lots of ninja cactus. The riding area is about a half mile from the parking lot and it has been very dry so bring water.
My goal is to come up with a section that is not a mile long death trap that riders can get more that 4 feet into with out 5ing.

I have to tell this short little story . . . a couple weekends ago there was a call out for riding downtown at 10am. I said I could be there at 1pm, asked if anyone would still be around. No response. So I mosey'ed up approx 2pm. I started messing around on the rocks and the wall at Confluence. Approx 3pm I'm setting up to try to go up the rocks and I hear "Jim!" Well, it's 3pm, extremely unlikely that any one is still down there if they started at 10am, and Jim is a fairly common name. So I just pedal towards the rocks. For some reason, I stop and turn around just in case someone was really calling to me. There's Phil on the bridge over the river! I wave him over. He goes back across the bridge, down the sidewalk, and when he gets to the rocks he just points in straight down and blazes from top to bottom. I was too stunned for words! I had made it down the rocks a few times by carefully picking my way across the flattest ones and trying to avoid them altogether by riding the concrete gullies between as much as possible. Typically took me several minutes of finesse (well, okay, MY version of finesse) and balance and (I thought) skills. Then Phil just bombed down like they weren't even there. Wow.
We talked for a few minutes, then he went straight back up the boulders -- really fast! LIke his bike had a motor! Keep in mind that I'd put in dozens of attempts at climbing these things and, as with the descents, it was always a slow, careful, delicate process full of stops and small hops. I made it to the top with 1 dab a couple of times, 2 dabs a couple of times, and numerous 5s. Always a long process. Phil went up like he was on a chair lift! Thankfully, he made a mistake at the top and dabbed. Otherwise, I might have thought the whole thing was a hallucination. :joshers: <== Phil the Apparition

No crap. Riding with Phil, you might as well be riding with Stan, Danny Butler, or Wayne Mahomet. No brakes.
