the city might take notice maybe if all you guys fill it out. if not you just wasted 2 minutes of you life, oh well.

doubt it will happen but worth trying i guess, just tell them to build a trials park like the city of port moody did and to search "city of port moody trials park" on google and/or argue that there should be a trials park for the same reasons port moody built one. i love campus, boulder creek, etc but it would be cool to have something like port moody does, looks fun to me? a big thing is it could help promote trials i think if they end up building a mountain bike park there as mountain bikers will take notice and be interested. part of the thing that got me into trials was i started riding skinny teeter totters on an old wheel chair course by my house, and i enjoyed the technical skills/challange which led me into trials partly. wheel chair course= similar to a trials park for beginners i guess?

building a trials park in boulder would be like putting up another fucking starbucks anywhere. sure it would get some use but we dont really need it.

ya but if the city has a few million to blow(which they do) why not? a trials park will cost what? 1000$? they can pay someone like you to design a trials park. they can spend their other 1.99 million on their fancy indoor dance theater that will hold a lot of people. even though they already have one. all the suggested idea's they have are not need. stazio fields, north boulder park fields, etc dont even get full use, baseball is gay anyways. for mountain biking, there is the research park, that place was useally empty when i used to go there 3 years ago. saw it a few monthes ago, didnt look like much had changed. xc skiing in the winter? they happens at north boulder park. it will make a pretty shitty frisbee golf course. oh and we have one of those too thats actully near where people live. there is lots of field space for soccer, etc all over boulder that does not see full use. they are looking to build another fucking starbucks. sure we have enough, but another one couldnt hurt right?

i'd tell them how to build it by saying "take this big thing of land and put small, middle, and big ass rocks on it. and some logs over there. move them around with a a bobcat and leave the keys for me to move shit around every few weeks. done.

i'll write something up for the petition thing tomorrow when im not recovering from the best concert i've been to in years.

boulder is one of the few places in america with the money and ability to do this, it could really help the scene...granted most noobs seem to be worthless.

This could be a double edged sword. A few years back the town I lived in raised money for a sweet skate park, but no bikes allowed. When the cops would hassle me for riding they would tell me I had to ride at the skate park only, that's why they built it, to keep skaters and bikers off the steets.

Could this trials park be an effort to keep riders from using the rest of Boulder as a trials park? I hope not.

I'll fill that out.
I think that consistency in our responses will help our cause.
It will show that we are united in our standpoint, that providing a trials park will fill a real need.
Perhaps before anyone gets too nutty we should organize an educated, well put together statement that everyone can post.
I firmly believe this could happen for us.

It's clear from the form that someone at city hall knows what trials is and has thought about supporting the sport. Nice job Calvin bringing this to everyones attention.

Yeah, we don't need it but new riders could really benefit from it. Consider the exposure this would bring to bike trials and right in our back yard no less.

there are random piles of rocks and shit all over boulder that expose trials when people ride on them. it's unfortunate that most of the people who are exposing trials are the floral board short/sleeveless shirt/road helemt with no visor/camelbak wearing/socially awkward gooners.

i'd love to see a trials park around here. it would be nice.

the city has had no problem with trials riders to start with? i have never had anyone under the city kick me off anywhere. i have had cops cheer me on though. the only reason port moody did is cause there was riding in front of city hall. i guess there are some rocks no infront of one of their buildings by the creek now, i have bailed into the flower bed a bunch. really though cu is the only place that has a problem with trials bikes and is the only places riders get shunned and get told to go to the skate park. and that has only happened to me riding in herbst plaza in the engineering center(the fat bitch-sherry snider and her assistant). getting a trials park isn't going to change your freedom of where you can ride in boulder.

it's not the floaral board short of the sleeveless shirts or the camelbak while trialsing... though that doesnt usually help. it's the mentality of the dickheads that is truly what makes the sport look bad.

Usually when I ride solo, I spend more time discussing and advocating trials than actually riding.

What the fuck are they going to do with $340,000? With that much money I could make a 10,000 squ foot indoor wharehouse filled with shit in boulder.

You should see the fucking $80,000 palm tree they planted under that concrete and steel with big booming lights to boot.

Someone should plant an interesting plant in that palm tree's bark. :hsugh:

The basic problem with cost is that it's all hand laid singletrack with super rough rock. I guess.

I keep asking for more boulders and logs with tractor time and they say my time is approaching.

Except we are riding on the coat-tails of MTB masses and the city council's idea of "art". Seriously, that's what they call a palm tree under a noisy ass bunch of motorized chaos.

Yea,.. for "get er done" CO, you could do a lot with $100k. Warehouse + Bobcat + Rocks + Logs = good times.

beastoftheeast
09-20-2007, 01:40 PM
i dont think it would cost 100k to "get er done". seattle has more tax dollars to blow than boulder? :eek3: i dont know how much boulders cost but seems like you could get a lot of rocks, chiped contrete objects, logs, worn out tractor tires, etc for 10k?

what? i heard riding trials in swim trunks and a wifebeater was in? :(

I'm willing to bet Ray at Rays MTB put about $65.000 to get his park open the first year, plus another 10-20K on upgrades yearly. $340K would get you gold plated ramps.

It's not the tax dollars as much as the real estate. If we wanted to do a warehouse with stuff in it out in hicksville it wouldn't cost as much,.. well sorta. Even warehouses are bank due to the Port of Seattle and Tacoma.

My advice, stay in school, get a real job, and build your own on your own land.

nothing costs a grand. There isn't a contractor near boulder that would touch it for less than 10... and you're probably looking at 70 for a general contractor to handle the construction of a 1/4 city block bare bones park. Ignoring of course that the land that it sits on is probably worth 1mil+

beastoftheeast
09-27-2007, 12:41 PM
ya i dont really know/understand this stuff but seems like it could be done for pretty cheap? i could build something shitty for free? screws, pallets, wood from the pallets, chain saw, some logs, tires... wouldnt last though as all wood. 10 grand could go a long way?

the park is massive. its craptacular land though. like 4 north boulder parks if you know boulder. some trials stuff would not take up much space?

I'm sure you've allready done the same, but I emailed the contact credited with the Port Moody project via the IMBA's web site, and am pulling some resources to see what kind of help you could get. I'll be back in Colorado on the 29th. Hopefully I'll have got something buy then or I'll have to resort to kicking in doors! This needs to happen! If you build it they will come. lol. :bowrofl:

Yeah theres hardly and trials riders to justify it, but theres a shit ton of faggy Uni riderzz. Provide a publicly visible spot, with a range of difficulty and
Modifiable obstacles. Then have comps weekly. People get interested. Hopefully not in UNI trials . They then want a bike. And support a local business...though currently non existant.
The city is going to spend money on open space regardless. Maybe we need another fucking disc golf corse???
