Previously:
I previously had spanish fly pads on medium grind. I had always thought my brakes worked great, I was never worried about them slipping, except sometimes in the wet. I had also used Koxx Bloxx (brown), what I think might have been Magura Brown pads (not sure; came on used monty), and gave MOE pads a shot because I won them at Big bear.

The moe pads, in my opinion, suck on a medium grind. I know that they are made for smooth rims, but they would always slip. Not sure how well they work on smooth rims.

The 'Magura Brown' pads (if thats what they are) and the spanish fly pads had about equal performance, which is pretty darn good.

I haven't used the Koxx Bloxx much, since I lent my mod to someone not too long after I put the pads on it, not that I really ever ride the mod anyway.

Now for the good stuff:
I put the Echo CNC lever on before I changed the pads to see how much of a difference they make. I absolutely love the feel of the lever. It is more comfortable, has better leverage, and feels stiffer all around. I would definitely recommend upgrading.

COUST PADS WITH CNC BACKING:
after much frustration with my Control frame not wanting to keep my wheel centered, and grinding off $3 worth of one of my pads (maybe 1mm or so), I finally got the pads set up right. I don't know if the CNC backing is thicker than the plastic ones, but I had never had a problem with having new pads rub.

first reaction:
HOLY SHIT!
I only rode around my front yard for a minute or two, but it was amazing, simply amazing. I would do a long pedal kick and land with the bike completely vertical, and no slip whatsoever. Not only was there no slip, but it felt so solid, it was like I was landing up against a wall.
I would trackstand, holding my brake with the same force I always have, and I would throw my weight on the front pedal and the bike would not budge.

CNC lever + Coust Pads w/cnc backing FTW!!

I am never buying a different pair of brake pads.
(unless I can find some poly just like it and make my own pads)

Yeah my buddy is using rock pads with the echo lever and his brakes are incredible. I really want one of those levers. Using the rock pads, they're nice. Wear out quick though.

Thats good news. Nothing makes me happier than a soild brake that locks with insane power.

I've heard they only work well at altitude (like after five foot taps)

haha :hsugh:

Just got in from riding, and my opinion of the coust pads has only gotten better.

They take around 4 hours to wear in properly for me. The whole sound of them changes so much too.

The sound of mine hasn't really changed but they sound amazing!
today at about noon a drunk guy yelled to us "haaayyy, ya'll need to put some oil on them brakes!"
We decided that it was Joe Dirt's brother.

one of the coolest things is that i know how good the coust pads were back in the time but there are pads that i've ridden that worked significantly better. that is bananas.

Coust rubber is the best ive used so far. Though I have some weird blue Plaz pads that are pretty delicious at the moment.

Ill be getting some rock pads soon.

Haven't tried the Coust's yet but will get some in with plastic backings. Rock pads are like CRM's...a bit louder and they bite with new install. Funny thing is the Rock Pads feel like a harder compound then CRM's but the grab is very similar.

I've had the same Koxx blox for ages, and switched them out for some of the icy blue rock pads. Went back to the Koxx . I've never been more pleased.
