Previously:
I previously had spanish fly pads on medium grind. I had always thought my brakes worked great, I was never worried about them slipping, except sometimes in the wet. I had also used Koxx Bloxx (brown), what I think might have been Magura Brown pads (not sure; came on used monty), and gave MOE pads a shot because I won them at Big bear.
The moe pads, in my opinion, suck on a medium grind. I know that they are made for smooth rims, but they would always slip. Not sure how well they work on smooth rims.
The 'Magura Brown' pads (if thats what they are) and the spanish fly pads had about equal performance, which is pretty darn good.
I haven't used the Koxx Bloxx much, since I lent my mod to someone not too long after I put the pads on it, not that I really ever ride the mod anyway.
Now for the good stuff:
I put the Echo CNC lever on before I changed the pads to see how much of a difference they make. I absolutely love the feel of the lever. It is more comfortable, has better leverage, and feels stiffer all around. I would definitely recommend upgrading.
COUST PADS WITH CNC BACKING:
after much frustration with my Control frame not wanting to keep my wheel centered, and grinding off $3 worth of one of my pads (maybe 1mm or so), I finally got the pads set up right. I don't know if the CNC backing is thicker than the plastic ones, but I had never had a problem with having new pads rub.
first reaction:
HOLY SHIT!
I only rode around my front yard for a minute or two, but it was amazing, simply amazing. I would do a long pedal kick and land with the bike completely vertical, and no slip whatsoever. Not only was there no slip, but it felt so solid, it was like I was landing up against a wall.
I would trackstand, holding my brake with the same force I always have, and I would throw my weight on the front pedal and the bike would not budge.
CNC lever + Coust Pads w/cnc backing FTW!!
I am never buying a different pair of brake pads.
(unless I can find some poly just like it and make my own pads)
