View Full Version : Opinions: Has anyone put a "y" split in their maggies before the slaves?

I thought of this a year ago and just forgot about it, somebody told me CLS used to have a little y adapter on his maggies, but I never looked into it.
What I'm asking, is has anybody split their hydraulic feed line, into two feeding both slave cylenders equally, rather than this little fucken series setup?
I know once the fluid inside the system is at its maximum pressure assuming your lever doesn't move, both cylenders should be seeing equal ammounts of force...should...
But anything up to that point is going to be a weird ratio, right?
I can't really think right now, work has owned me. I was just riding tonight and I thought of that, so I figured I would drop this on the OTN gurus and see what anybody says.
I'm bored, its tuesday, work week sucks.

I'm fairly certain it was done by Monty many years ago. It was just a bitch to bleed, didn't offer any actualy advantage :dunno: .

monty makes one. comes on all their bikes i believe...the nicer ones at least.

They're pretty much gay.
The pads are gonna be given the same pressure with a crossover, and it's also bollocks about them not hitting the rim at the same time for two reasons, the pads are gonna both lock onto the rim if you're pulling it hard enough for it to matter, and it's highly unlikely that you'll get pistons with the same friction to move at exactly the same time.
It's GAY, gayer than pushing a plank of wood around.

I had that on my monty(front and rear), until I botched a sidehop and the handlebars spun and pulled one side off. I had the brake bled, and two days later the same thing happened, so I got rid of them. It seems like it would work better if the barb was longer, theres not much holding it in place. I never had any problems with the rear one though.

Yep, I think i might actually have one or 2 laying around somewhere. They do distrubute the pressure equally. Takes a little bit longer to bleed the system since you have to make sure air is out of both sides. I just found it to be a P.I.T.A. to get the hose on.

Thanks for the thread ebon. Didn't expect this many replies so fast.
I understand how some think it's gayer than a sack of dicks on christmas morning (Kudos otn for that).
But I think i might try it. I'm a machinist, wtf do I do besides make bullshit pipeline collets and shit. Magura parts are more important. Fuck proline! Should be dead by tomorrow:run:

Pfft, you can always drill out your helmet and shave your balls to compensate.

where does it end!? where does the insanity end!?!!
also a question- where else other than before the slaves could you put the y-split? right?

It's worthless peice of metal, hydraulic presure will equalize in the series setup.
Let it die already Monty

Monty use to use them and then threshold design made a few, I have both if you want them..
There a pain to bleed,

wouldnt it be easier to bleed if you could do it from the lever down to the piston part?

Why do you want to use them, they really don't work all that well. The amount of time to dial them in, is not worth it.
If you're out riding and you break a line, forget about it..

i would never use them. i think the idea is stupid. i was just asking. becuase im bored, and the answer might be helpful to whoever wants to do it.

Split it at the master cylinder and run two hoses all the way down the length of the bike:eek3danc:

Thanks for the points guys.
Here is a question, do you guys have uneven pad wear? Reason I kind of thought of this was because my slave cylender that receives the feed line, that pad is always worn before the other, by the time I get new pads, its almost 40% more wear than the last slave in line.
So, judging by that, the one pad hits first. I usually alternate. But regardless of how I bleed, tps setting, pad set up...Its been like that on all my maggies with a grind. So, thats the only reason behind my curiousity.

I just checked and I have about 4 splitters, if anyone wants them, just PM me for them..

One of my neighbors pretty much can only use one hand, so I ran both brakes from one lever just as you describe. I called Magura to ask about the splitter and they told me to use a bleed fitting to run the other hose out of the lever instead.
