I am somewhat new to trials due to never knowing about. I just switched from being into BMX freestyle riding for a longtime.

I am interested in the history of trials in the United States...

Was trials big here in the States at one time and is now dwindling away? Or is it just starting to grow?

It definitely seems to be dwindling.

I have a house in Punta Gorda and I'll be down there from time to time. We'll have to do a group ride, maybe we can meet up with Lance too.

Yes, a group ride would be great... I sucks riding alone.

You can check out this post Is trials growing or shrinking in the US? (http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=29505) for help answering that question. I once found a site that had a real good history of trials but have not refound it. Closest thing I've found is here (http://biketrials.com/intro/what.shtml). That site isn't updated often so search here (Observedtrials.net) for more current trials specifics info. They (biketrials.com) also have some good tech info. (http://biketrials.com/tech/index.shtml)

While checking out the biketrials.com site like you suggested I found their history of trials at http://biketrials.com/intro/history.shtml. Is this the one you were talking about?

Trials b growing world wide, the US is probably the slowest of the anglo countries.

Don't confuse the competition scenes complete slow down with people not riding trials- people are riding...and learning about it...

How do you stand the heat and traffic in Florida?

In Minnesota it seem like more and more people are starting to ride compared to 5 years ago.

The heat is only bad 3-4 months and the rest of the year is awesome... Traffic??? The traffic down here is cake... But I did move here a few years ago from the N.VA/DC area where traffic is pure hell...

Where in FL?

Orlando if I remember correctly.

I dont plan on moving back to Florida until I can a: afford a 2nd house or b:turn 65

Edit: The weather in Florida is awesome. 93 degree summer afternoons with 75% humidity suck balls but also serve to help you relish ANY OTHER WEATHER YOU ENDURE. plus where the fuck else in the US can you go wade fishing in the dead of winter.

I fucking love Florida but Colorado is my home now.

Nice to read this.
In my country (Brazil) the sport it´s growing again the peak of sport was in 1996 with monthly competition calendar.
Now when the trials especific parts are available here many riders are looking for trials informations and I´m very happy with this, not for business interest but happy about the new riders that comming to our loved sport and I´ll be satisfied to see an rider with an trials bike independs where he bought this.

I really hope that trials grows in everywhere, USA, ASIA, EUROPE, AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA...I´m working to make trials scene in Brazil to grow every day.
I can´t understand why trials isn´t bigger, cause it´s an amazing sport though.
In my country there´s about 80 riders or around it, considering the country dimensions are very fews...
I´ve purchased from Deng about 2.600USD in parts. after 4 months left just some cranks and rims cause the mainly parts are new yet, but soon the riders will crash some rims, bars, frames and I´m on my second order and I hope to sell it quick, not for money wishes it´s for sport grows.

Guys, sorry my english, I´m learning english, I never study english before. but I like your language the speech sound good.

cheers!

Trails seems to be growing. Has any one considered interviewing Tim @ trialsin or Mean Todd. I'm sure they wouldn't give $ amounts but they might give up some % gain over the years.
Florida is americas wang. The only good riding is Windemere and Clermont on road bikes. A few jettys exist and there are a lot of rotten logs to ride on. I moved here from Daytona area 7 years ago, and even hate visiting. I love old people but not behind the wheel.

Tim will tell you that trials is growing.

Seeing that Webcyclery has been expanding the last few years with their own trials section you have to assume it's growing...

Well, you pretty much only ride urban in FL since there are no good natural riding. But downtown Tampa is good on the weekends due to there being absolutely nobody down there since the city revolves around business. No on gives you a hard time, which lets you ride wherever you want. Ft. Lauderdale is a little different since more people live in the downtown area and there are more leisure things to do. The few times I have ridden down there I did get hassled at a few places, but it wasn't too bad. :Sonic:

Here in Venice managed to leave my rear windows both completely down (got to work early a lil hung over, didn't even notice)...for a 10 hour day at work...this is in shady venice beach- inside my bike, a camera + lenses, clothes, 400 cds.

Nothing was touched

probably shadiest of the beach cities..

I've left my garage open for 5+ hours with ducati/z3/5k+ bikes sitting there, nothing touched. LA ftw.

ps-the earthquakes are TERRIBLE.

Don't forget the smog and traffic!

Wait, what smog? There was worse traffic in Denver. Within a 4 block radius of my home I have more free produce on trees than in all of whole foods back in colorado :momaru:

Maybe I'm weird, but it seems like action sports organizations would give trials an event to test the waters... I remember a few years back X-Games had an event for street luge??? Is this a huge sport on the West Coast? Riding a skateboard on your back down a hill wasn't too exciting to watch. If they had a trials event, I think that would have been more interesting to watch due to the skill level difference needed for each of these sports...

Or at least a segment on Fuel TV or something...

AndyT
08-02-2007, 02:58 PM
It's been in the x-games. I've never seen street louge in real life, its the gayest thing since rollerblading. It is more exciting to watch than trials because people fall and they are going fast. Trials is boring and slow, much like life in tampa.

TampaTrials

Life in Tampa is awesome; we have perfect weather 7 months of the year. Some of the nicest beaches in the world, tons of hot women, hot teachers who seduce their students. What else could you ask for?

I would much rather be here than fending off fires, crumbling during earthquakes, choking on smog, decomposing in rush hour traffic, and having to hear about Paris, Nicole, Lindsey and all the other gay as crap that goes on out there. I can even smoke a cigarette where I want....

Ps I don't get what the deal is with Ybor? That place is dumb. Lodo is way tighter. People hurling in the streets and shit here.

WhiteRavenKS
08-03-2007, 02:41 AM
street luge is lame but when was the last time you saw a trials rider beef their shit into a hay bail at 40 mph? oh yeah.

watching a trials comp is like watching the "behind the scenes making o" for a time lapse of a plant growing.

i think in the years ive been riding the number of trials guys has increased.
all us young punks who used to watch the ONE guy in town or on tv decided that was for us... some areas are seriously lacking in the rider and spot depts. but that is changing.
its tough to get yourself out into the heat alone here in fla that is for sure
being the only rider in west palm is kinda queer too. i have to drive 45 minutes to ride with 2 other guys. id love to hook up with all the fla guys maybe in orlando or something...?
